MPD Release Photo of “Suspect Sought in Arson Offenses” including two “Assault with Intent to Kill (Arson)”

“Members of the ATF/DC Arson and Explosives Task Force, which includes members from MPD, DCFEMS, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, seek the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in reference to Arson offenses that occurred on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, in the First and Fifth Districts.

First District:

Assault with Intent to Kill (Arson):

At approximately 12:22 am, the suspect approached the victim in the 1300 block of H Street, Northeast. The suspect ignited a cloth and threw it on the victim. The suspect then fled the scene. No injuries were reported. CCN: 20-071-246

Destruction of Property: At approximately 1:05 am, DC Fire and EMS and officers from the First District responded to the 1300 block of Florida Avenue, Northeast, for the report of an automobile fire. Members of DC Fire and EMS extinguished the fire. There were no reported injuries. An investigation into the cause of the fire revealed it was intentionally set. CCN: 20-071-270

Assault with Intent to Kill (Arson): At approximately 1:08 am, DC Fire and EMS responded to the 900 block of H Street, Northeast, for the report of a structure fire. Members of DC Fire and EMS extinguished the fire. An investigation into the cause of the fire revealed it was intentionally set. Members located an adult male victim suffering from life threatening injuries, and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. CCN: 20-071-259

The suspect was captured by nearby surveillance cameras and can be seen in photos above.

Fifth District:

Arson: At approximately 1:25 am, the suspect approached an unoccupied residence in the 1400 block of Morse Street, Northeast. The suspect poured a flammable liquid on the outside of the residence and ignited it. The suspect then fled the scene. CCN: 20-071-544

Arson: At approximately 1:35 am, members of DC Fire and EMS and members of the Fifth District responded to the 1400 block of Morse Street, Northeast, for the report of a structure fire. Members of DC Fire and EMS extinguished the fire. There were no reported injuries. An investigation into the cause of the fire revealed it was intentionally set. CCN: 20-071-271

These cases are being investigated as potentially being related. Anyone who can identify this individual or has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.”
