“Dear PoPville,

In the midst of all the COVID craziness, I have to move and am looking for a property manager for my rowhouse in Kingman Park. After a bad experience with a property manager years ago, I’m pretty nervous by the vast amount of companies and the variation in reviews. Does anybody have any recommendations for property managers that have worked for them?”

“Dear PoPville,

My fiance and I had to postpone our October wedding to ensure our immunocompromised friends and families wouldn’t be put at risk, and we rescheduled for Memorial Day weekend of next year. We still want to get married, so we decided to take advantage of DC’s online applications for marriage licenses, so we can get married on May 30th, so that our wedding date next year will be our one-year anniversary.

Unfortunately, we submitted our application a month ago and still haven’t heard anything from the DC Marriage Bureau. We tried calling the number listed on their site, and a woman answered, “HELLO?!” and seemed genuinely surprised and very unhappy that we were calling. She dismissively told my fiance to check his spam folder (obviously we already had), said nothing else could be done by her or anyone else to check in on our application, and hung up.

We have just two weeks left to figure this out… would love to hear if anyone else been able to get their license through the online application process during the quarantine?

We reached out to our Councilperson for help, who reached out to Rep. Holmes-Norton, who hasn’t responded. Any other suggestions would be really appreciated! We’ve already had a tough year of loss and challenges (recognizing that we’re not the only ones), and it’d be great to have at least one thing go right – or, rather, for DC’s bureaucracy to do one thing right.”

“Dear PoPville,

GW Hospital has been continuing to harass people with debt collection calls during the pandemic. Additionally, the business center is either unwilling or unable to help. A call can take hours to get through. If you call at a busy time the line will only stay active a little over an hour and then disconnect. This forces you to restart the queue. If you can get through and ask questions that they are unable to answer they will hang up forcing you to start all over. I have been in contact with the attorney generals office (more…)

Earlier around 12:45pm: “I have no idea how this happened, honestly I tune out all noise these days and didn’t notice until after cops were already on the scene. Anyone else know what led up to this?”

One reader reported: “It was crazy! He accelerated and didn’t even swerve. Almost like he mixed up the gas and the brake or something. No clue what could have caused it though cause nothing was in the road on anything”

“Dear PoPville,

I just wanted to give a heads up to runners in northeast (specifically between 2nd-3rd and K-F) of a man that is verbally harassing/chasing runners. I witnessed a runner being harassed by this man Monday near Ebenezers coffee where he screamed at the man and jolted at him. I myself was harassed by him today near Indigo with him using profane language, etc. My boyfriend found him after I came home terrified and he called the police. The police came and reported that other people had called in this individual today as well but they can’t arrest because no crime was officially committed.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m working w Sasha Bruce youthwork, a 45 year old organization that provides services to homeless youth across the city and PG county. The organization’s 19 programs and centers remain open during COVID, continuing w regular programming while also providing essential items (masks, cleaning supplies, etc), more meals, and additional support programs. But, many of our city’s homeless youth are especially challenged physically and emotionally during this time. We are asking DC residents to help from afar by sending a “note of encouragement” to these youth.” (more…)
