“Dear PoPville,

I got a scam call last week from someone claiming to be a MPD officer. He claimed I had failed to appear for jury duty, and that legal action would be taken against me if I wasn’t able to prove that I’d never received the summons letter, which he claimed had been signed by me (I never got such a letter).

He seemed really legit and used real-sounding jargon. He had info about me, such as my age and address. (more…)

It didn’t specifically say why Dr. Thornburgh was retiring, but he was getting up in years and I think had been planning to retire at some point anyway. My guess is that the pandemic probably accelerated that decision.

A veterinarian friend of mine from high school caught COVID-19 at work — fortunately, he recovered fully. I suppose that’s a good reminder that it’s a frontline occupation. (more…)

A few folks have been asking me what folks are doing for inauguration. The Mayor and Governors of Maryland and Virginia are “are taking the extraordinary step of encouraging Americans not to come to Washington, DC and to instead participate virtually.” But for folks who live in the District, will you be staying home or heading out of town? Obviously the coronavirus has been surging too, which just adds to these craziest of days.
