From MPD at 4:40pm: “Alert: Shooting Investigation in the 700 block of 7th St NE. No lookout

Update from MPD: “On January 28, 2021 at approximately 3:42 pm, officers from the First District responded to the 700 block of 7th St NE for the report of sounds of gunshots. Officers located a a crime scene but not a victim. A short time later, a juvenile male responded to a local hospital and reported that they had been shot while in the 700 block of 7th St NE. The lookout is for two black males wearing dark clothing.
First District Detectives area actively investigating this incident. Should anyone have information related to the shooting, please contact the First District Detectives office at (202) 299-2025, or the Metropolitan Police Department’s Command Information Center at (202) 727-9099.”

“Based on conversations with federal partners, there are some potentially volatile events upcoming that will require extra security. Fencing and the presence of troops will be a part of that. But we will not accept extra troops or permanent fencing as a long-term fixture in DC.
When the time is right, the fencing around the White House and U.S. Capitol, just like the plywood we’ve seen on our businesses for too long, will be taken down. (more…)

“Newly-opened Pennyroyal Station will extend its hours, operating with an expanded all-day menu beginning today. The updated hours and menu reflect Pennyroyal’s ethos as a neighborhood restaurant- responding to the need of the surrounding Mount Rainier community and beyond for new daytime dining options during the coronavirus pandemic. The new all-day menu will be available for carry out and delivery from 11 AM to 8 PM Thursday, January 28.
When indoor dining is allowed to resume in Prince George’s County beginning Friday, January 29, the hours will change to 11AM to 9PM on Tuesday through Friday, with carry out and delivery only from 11AM to 4PM followed by on-site dining (indoor and outdoor, weather permitting) from 4 PM to 9 PM (carry out and delivery continues all night). Weekend hours will be 4PM to 9PM with indoor/outdoor dining, carry out and delivery all available. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
What is the building with two tall smoke stacks at the western end of the actual Navy Yard, just across from La Famosa? For the several weeks I have lived nearby, there has been nothing to see here. Now, for the second day in a row, there is a huge amount of smoke coming out at the bottom of the building (not even out of the smoke stacks) and a very loud whir of machinery. (more…)
