“Dear PoPville,

Happy almost-end-to-meteorological-winter!

I remember someone asking a few months back about garbage cans being backordered. We closed at the end of October and put in our order for garbage and recycling cans a couple of days later. I’m happy to say they were just delivered, 4.5 months later :) Not sure if it would be helpful to others to know about the timing of things, but I thought that I’d pass along the information.”

I keep forgetting to post these. Thanks to all who’ve messaged us.

Thomas reports: “final touches going up on the new Shell station at 2200 P, incl. 8+ ULTRA BRIGHT lights on the lot. They’re hideous & completely clash with the character & historic charm of the globe lights on the station. They’re also a nuisance & light up my apt at night” (more…)

“Captcha not working on DC vaccination website. Keeps telling me it’s incorrect when it isn’t. Happened three times now.”

From MPD: “On Thursday, February 25, 2021, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Fourth District units responded for a one car accident in the 1700 block of Michigan Avenue NE. Upon arriving the officer discovered the driver appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. As the Officers were conducting their investigating the Driver armed himself with a gun and refused to exit the vehicle. After hours of negations the driver surrendered peacefully without incident and was placed under arrest.”

One reader wrote around 8pm: “I can imagine what is going on with the police barricade situation going on for over 4 hours on Michigan Ave NE. There isn’t much info but I hope everyone stays safe.”

Announcement

ICA Language Services (ICA), a family-owned, woman-led small business based in Arlington, is celebrating its 40th anniversary, marking decades of supporting the U.S. military and diplomatic community through language training and testing.

Founded in April 1986 as Inlingua Foreign Language Center, a 6-classroom language school, ICA expanded under the leadership of Deidre Doyle, an entrepreneur with a background in organizational management who joined the company the same year. As a military spouse, she had developed a deep understanding of military organizations and culture, helping shape ICA into a trusted provider of language training and testing for military professionals. Doyle became a partner in 1993 and sole owner in 2009, when she changed the name to ICA Language Services.
