“I’m the partner / operator at the newly opened Capa Tosta located at 2737 Sherman Ave NW. My family and I immigrated to the DC area from Napoli, Italy 30 years ago. We’ve been working at restaurants in the area ever since. We’re so excited to finally strike out on our own. My parents, both lifetime chefs and bakers, have come out of retirement to bring family recipes to this neighborhood restaurant. We’ve coupled authentic dishes with innovative cocktails.”

“Songbyrd will take over Coconut Club’s former location on Penn Street NE and will continue to host the eclectic lineup of up-and-coming acts that drew longtime patrons to Adams Morgan for the past six years. The exact date of its grand opening in Northeast is still to be determined, but in the meantime, Edmonson and Lapan will reopen Songbyrd’s original location on Aug. 16.”

Was riding with a group of about ten cyclists last night heading down MacArthur Blvd. Right near where it meets Sangamore, a driver in a white Alfa Romeo SUV started leaning on their horn. Then as they passed (dangerously close, giving us less than three feet) they began shouting expletives at our group. None of this fazed me too much – I’ve handled my fair share of abuse from unhappy people in cars – but what happened next really put me off. (more…)

16th St Heights

Thanks to PVQ for sending: “FYI: Salt and Pepper II (the location on 14th and Shepherd) has a “for sale” sign in their window. I talked to the owner and confirmed this location will be closing soon. Get your takeout while you still can! I’m devastated to see them go.”

They opened here back in December 2013. The original Salt and Pepper Grill is located at 2632 Georgia Ave, NW in Pleasant Plains. You can see their menu here.

Starting Friday, July 30, the Smithsonian will require all visitors ages 2 and older to wear a mask in its museums and indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status. Fully vaccinated visitors will not be required to wear a mask in outdoor areas at the National Zoo and the Smithsonian’s outdoor gardens but must wear a mask to visit indoor areas, including restrooms.
