Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

In search of gardening advice for hot months and extended stays out of town. I’m fairly novice in gardening but finally invested in some hydrangeas in our backyard that I’d hate to part with over an extended vacation (3 weeks) in August. In search of advice on how to keep them watered and alive (drip hose?) or of any watering services that deal with outdoor plants.”

Ed. Note: Please send your great garden hauls via email to [email protected] with Garden Haul in the subject line and let me know what you’ve grown and what neighborhood you are in. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Our house in Dupont Circle has been infested with rats since January, and we’re at our wits end. We keep traps out and have tried to fill holes in the wall where we can, but we can’t seem to keep them at bay. Our landlord has an exterminator on retainer, but he’s useless- comes maybe once a month, sets a trap or two and leaves.

Can anyone suggest a pest removal company that actually investigates the problem to find the root cause? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I hope you can help me track down some amazing Good Samaritans to whom I will be forever indebted. On Tuesday evening (6/14), my husband was biking up sixteenth street when he went into sudden cardiac arrest. From what I understand, he was able to get off his bike and onto the sidewalk before collapsing unconscious and without a heart beat. Some quick thinking bystanders started administering CPR and called 911. They continued to do CPR until the EMTs were able to get there and take over. According to my husband’s doctors, had they not been there and acted as quickly as they did, my husband would not have survived. (more…)
