From the owners of 1314 1/2 9th Street, NW:

“We at 1314 1/2 Inc. are thrilled to announce that a corporation formed by Can Yurdagul of Sushi Capitol and Sushi Ogawa has leased the former Seasonal Pantry space at 1314 1/2 9th St NW as of May 1. Can found our space through a PoPville post and though sushi had never crossed our minds as a tenant we believe it is a perfect fit in that quirky space which he plans to use to its fullest. We have talked at length about what is missing on the street and much of the conversation was based on the comment section of the PoPville post citing a lack of Sunday, daytime, fast breakfast and lunch, etc. options, all gaps he plans to fill. I cannot speak as to his exact opening date but work is happening within. Stay tuned.”

Ed. Note: City Paper reports: “The restaurant is currently undergoing some cosmetic upgrades and is set to open in the next two to three weeks.”

From a press release:

“Tiffany MacIsaac, Pastry Chef/Owner of Buttercream Bakeshop, is pleased to announce the opening of her first storefront, located at 1250 9th Street, NW in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC.

The bakery is a culmination of a yearlong quest by the award-winning pastry chef to find the perfect flagship location for Buttercream Bakeshop. During that time, MacIsaac has been busy creating exquisite, custom wedding cakes and special occasion sweets that have been available since August 2014 by delivery and at select pop-up events in the DC metro area.

Mornings at Buttercream Bakeshop will bring an array of signature breakfast items, such as the Buttercream Breakfast Bun, scrambled eggs with sharp cheddar and breakfast sausage rolled in milk bread, Buttercream Bakeshop’s take on a breakfast sandwich. The shop will also feature an array of Flakies, rich and buttery round croissant-style pastry in classic (rolled in sugar) or with seasonal fillings, such as passion fruit, chocolate, almond, and Nutella. Buttercream Bakeshop’s Cinnascone is expected to be a crowd-pleaser; the buttermilk scone dough is treated like a cinnamon roll, filled with a mixture of butter, sugar and cinnamon, and topped with a cinnamon sugar glaze. From MPD:

“On May 16, 2016, at approximately 9:45 pm., Third District officers were in the 1300 block of S St. N.W. when they heard a commotion in the block. The officers investigated and found a victim suffering from multiple lacerations. The officers were able to apprehend the suspect and placed the suspect under arrest. My gratitude is extended to the officers that were exactly where they needed to be at the appropriate moment for the sake of the victim, the suspect, and the neighboring citizens.

From a press release:

“Michael Friedman, Michael O’Malley and Sebastian Zutant, co-owners of The Red Hen, have partnered with Gareth Croke and Colin McDonough, co-owners of Boundary Stone to open All-Purpose. The restaurant, now open at 1250 9th Street, NW in the revitalized Shaw neighborhood, offers 90 restaurant seats along with a 15-seat bar, and features a straightforward Roman menu accented with Italian-American classics in a casual and convivial 2,500 square-foot space.

Pizza is the heart of Chef Friedman’s food program at All-Purpose. He has created a distinctive dough for the restaurant that captures the “breadier” qualities of the old school deck oven pizzas of his youth. The crust, which is used for all of the pies at All-Purpose, offers a rustic, chewy texture and is caramel in color due in part to the cooking process as well as the high amount of whole wheat flour. Of the six pizzas that are now offered at All-Purpose, Chef Friedman anticipates the Cossimo, named after one of his favorite Jersey Italian haunts, topped with roasted mushrooms, Tallegio, scallions, preserved truffle sauce and grana will become the fan favorite. The Buona, featuring pepperoni, mozzarella, chili honey & basil, will also be a crowd pleaser. (more…)
