Well all the Wawa excitement has me thinking about fast casual (back in my day we called it fast food grumble grumble) so please indulge me. There are way too many today to do a poll so let’s just give our answer in the comments. I’ll list as many as I can think of here – but if (when I surely) leave some out please do include them in the comments. I’m thinking for lunch. Ok here goes, Sweetgreen, Chopt, Roti, Taylor Gourmet, A. Litteri, Buredo, Chipotle, Wiseguys Pizza, District Taco, Takorean, Cava Grill, Nando’s Peri Peri, Chix, SeoulSpice, Eatsa, Wiseguys NY Pizza, Ben’s Chili Bowl, Sundevich, Chaia, Merzi… God, we really do have a ton of options, anyway you get the idea. Where’s your favorite fast casual lunch spot? And remember today’s the last day for Pedro and Vinny’s Burrito Cart on K Street.

City Sports closed back in December 2015. And now it is the future home to DC’s first Wawa!! Yesterday when we first broke news of a coming Wawa some commenters wrote that it’d be coming to the former City Sports on 19th Street. And now that appears accurate after DCist got word from their own tipster:

“One Wawa will be located downtown at 1111 19th Street NW, per a tipster who asked to remain anonymous but was able to provide documentation confirming the address. It will be a “comprised deli kiosk setup,” according to the tipster.”

STAY TUNED.

Back in January I first shared word that the Donburi folks were moving into the former Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine space. Anyone remember Singapore Bistro? That news is now confirmed based on a liquor license application for Donburi:

“A fast casual restaurant serving Japanese cuisine. Seating capacity of 57 inside. Total Occupancy Load of 92. No entertainment, performances or dancing.”

Donburi’s first location is at 2438 18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan.  Sophie’s closed back in March of last year. You can see Donburi’s menu here.  Updates as they get closer to opening.

This is not a drill. This epic news comes from Jonah, who now is honored in the PoPville scuttlebutt hall of fame. OK – so every time we talk about what DC is missing – some folks mention Wawa. And they do so because Wawa makes delicious hoagies. So Jonah says we will find out the locations on June 13th: “They are saying unique restaurant style stores for DC customers.”

STAY TUNED

“What do you call an all-natural cheeseburger topped with fried pickles, roasted jalapeños, fried onions, and smoky BBQ sauce? The Mama Burger; just one of the delicious new items added to Tasty Burger’s menu today. Several new items announced today join the neighborhood burger joint’s menu full-time at its first D.C. location in Atlantic Plumbing in Shaw.

Known for its use of all-natural beef, eco-friendly packaging, gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options, and slew of condiments available on Lazy Susans throughout the restaurant, Tasty Burger heads into summer with several new-to-D.C. menu items that have big followings in Boston, where the growing East Coast burger chain was founded in 2010.

Since the spot is, seemingly, never not crowded I’ll go with – Boom! From a liquor license application:

“Applicant requests a Summer Garden Endorsement with 68 seats. Applicant also requests an expansion to the second floor, adding 60 seats for a Total Occupancy Load of 202 for the entire premises.”

Washington Business Journal reported that this Summer Garden seating will be on the rooftop.

I’m definitely going with – Boom!
