Donburi applies for liquor license at former Sophie’s space on 19th

1134 19th Street, NW

Back in January I first shared word that the Donburi folks were moving into the former Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine space. Anyone remember Singapore Bistro? That news is now confirmed based on a liquor license application for Donburi:

“A fast casual restaurant serving Japanese cuisine. Seating capacity of 57 inside. Total Occupancy Load of 92. No entertainment, performances or dancing.”

Donburi’s first location is at 2438 18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan.  Sophie’s closed back in March of last year. You can see Donburi’s menu here.  Updates as they get closer to opening.

Off-topic, but does anyone know the status of Wahlburgers opening in Dupont? Haven’t heard anything about it since last Fall. (I would’ve asked in the forum, but the link isn’t working for me)

Try Red Apron Burger Bar — way better than Wahlburger.

    Oh, this is good news!
(Now if only they had responded to me when I sent them messages through about three different platforms asking if their truck was still even operating…. rude….)

    • FridayGirl

No — but you think they’d be more responsive when I’m trying to give them my money, “eh”? -_-

      • FridayGirl

Give me a break and bugger off. I’m so sick of “Anon” people on here trying to tamp down other people’s opinions on here.

    • Team donburi

It is very rude of them. They must have been super broken hearted for their truck being closed for the foreseeable future. We are super sorry :(

      • FridayGirl

Well, thank you for confirming! I wish you had announced it more openly. A lot of my colleagues and I spent several weeks scouring the downtown area for you! (That being said, we’re looking forward to the new place opening!)

When is the Dupont location going to open?

Singapore Bistro…how about the original Cafe Asia which I believe was there before that?? Now that’s old school. Any word on anything replacing the tragically vanished Science Club next door?
