Ed. Note: Wait till they hear about Casa Luca

“Dear PoPville,

Which D.C. restaurants are popular with national politicians?

According to a investigative website, it’s these:

Charlie Palmer Steak
Joe’s Stone Crab
Bistro Bis
Casa Luca
Acqua Al 2
Fiola
Morton’s
Cap Grille”

Ed. Note two: A similar unofficial and unaffiliated study has revealed that Dan Silverman spent most at Blue 44, Nanny O’Briens, Vace, Soapstone Market, Raku and 2Amy’s. Just being honest, if I had my druthers it’d all go to Pho Viet, Himitsu and Sushi Taro. What have your studies revealed?

1909 9th Street, NW

On Monday we broke the news of the legendary Etete closing at 1942 9th Street, NW just south of U Street but don’t take that as an indication that little Ethiopia is no more. A liquor license just posted at 1909 9th Street, NW down the street says:

“New Tavern offering quick-service Ethiopian foods. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to provide live entertainment. Total Occupancy Load of 125 with seating for 125.”

399 Morse Street, SE

Thanks to Michael (and Seth) word about Stellina Pizzeria: “Next to Shouk and the spectacular Pluma on the corner.”

The liquor license placard for Stellina says:

“New C Restaurant serving Italian cuisine. Seating Capacity of 40, Total Occupancy Load of 60. Sidewalk Cafe with 20 seats.”

STAY TUNED.

From a press release:

“The Feast day of San Lorenzo – typically celebrated on August 10 – is a grand celebration of food and wine in Florence, Italy, and quite frankly… a great reason for all of Italy to throw a party!

As we stated upon opening, San Lorenzo Ristorante + Bar is named after Chef Massimo Fabbri’s favorite neighborhood in Florence – Borgo San Lorenzo, as well as his 4 year old son, who in turn is named for San (or Saint) Lorenzo, the patron saint of chefs. The martyr took on this mantle when, as he was burning to death on a grill as punishment for disobeying orders and giving away the treasures of the church to the poor, he joked, “Turn me over, I’m done on this side!”

So… Massimo has decided to continue the tradition and will throw his First Annual FESTA DI SAN LORENZO on Sunday, August 12th with a special Celebratory Three Course $55 Prix-Fixe Menu.

Reservations can be made here.

Chef Fabio Trabocchi opened Casa Luca in the former Againn space back in July 2013. Sfoglina opened in Van Ness at 4465 Connecticut Ave, NW back in December 2016. They were awarded a Bib Gourmands from Michelin in 2017.

From Casa Luca’s Facebook page August 5th:

“Thank you to everyone who visited us yesterday during our last day of service as Casa Luca. These past few years in the community have been an honor and we have always thought of our guests as family, which is why we are so lucky to have served you and hosted so many special occasions in our restaurant. We will be closed for minor renovations over the next few days, but we are excited to open the doors to our newest location of Sfoglina Pasta House on August 9th. (more…)

This is very good news, CherCher was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient in 2016. The first opened up on 9th Street in Shaw back in 2012.
