Sad news from the “Indian food and spice market, cafe, and cooking school”,Pansaari, on July 31st:

“Our journey ends today. But, we are sure many of you will take a bit of Pansaari and it’s food with you on your individual journeys; and that is the only way we would want our story to continue. Thank you for all the love. We leave you with this lovely smile of our fearless leader!

Alvida, Khudaa-haafiz, Adios, Au-revoir, Sayonara, Goodbye.”

Ed. Note: Pansaari opened back in September 2014 in the former location of Club Chaos, which closed in 2008.

“I just spotted construction by Zuckerman Gravely for a restaurant (category?) next door to Colony Club.”

This is Sonny’s Square Pie/Sister Bar:

“New class “C” restaurant with 199 seats and a Total Occupancy Load of 250. Applicant requests two Summer Gardens: a front Summer Garden with 25 seats, and a rear Summer Garden with 95 seats. Applicant has also applied for an Entertainment Endorsement.”

“By far the best breakfast sandwich in DC. Not even close. I can’t get over how good these are. Wam homemade pastrami, a farm fresh egg perfectly cooked, a nice slice of cheese, on a lightly toasted and buttered roll with a pinch of salt. It may take five or ten minutes but 100% worth the wait. #pastrami #egg #cheese”

Zenebech Aiming for an August 15th Reopening in Adams Morgan

Brief update from Zenebech in response to an inquiry on reopening:

“We’re aiming for August 15th. We will make an official announcement next week!”

Zenebech has been closed since December when a fire gutted next door neighbor #1 Juicy-Cajun Seafood, damaging Zenebech.  Zenebech Injera had only recently reopened, after moving from Shaw, in August 2017. Fingers crossed for August 15th!!

“I’ve been wondering what’s been coming to this space. This is in between DC Reynolds and the old Walters on Georgia Ave. Now I understand why DC Reynolds had to return part of their patio space.”

The liquor license placard for Tsehay Ethiopian Restaurant says:

“New Restaurant serving Ethiopian food. Summer Garden with 20 seats. Seating for 42 inside and a Total Occupancy Load of 62. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to provide live entertainment inside the premises and for the Summer Garden.”
