From George Washington University:
“This week, our testing program identified a significant increase in positive COVID-19 cases among members of our university community. While these cases are not severe and vaccination continues to provide strong protection, it is critical that we act to limit the further spread of cases. Read More

From the Mayor’s Office:
“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Chief Robert J. Contee, III of the Metropolitan Police Department, and District Department of Transportation Interim Director Everett Lott announced new traffic safety enhancements around schools.
“Ensuring our young people have everything they need to succeed means keeping them safe before, during, and after school. Whether that’s through Safe Passage, through the shuttle bus program, or through enhanced traffic enforcement, we know it’s a community-wide effort,” said Mayor Bowser. “We also know that our young people have a unique perspective on what’s happening in our city and incorporating their insights and their perspectives into our work is critical to building a safer, stronger DC. I encourage our young people to share their ideas and make their voices heard at the upcoming Youth Summit.”
Beginning today, Monday, November 29, 2021, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) will be conducting a traffic safety campaign targeting safety in school zones. Read More
“Dear PoPville,
from I St SW, just to the east of 6th st. This is for the Amidon Bowen Elementary School Zone. The crosswalk sign impedes seeing the school zone sign indicating a lower speed limit. Hard to protect the kids walking to school when drivers can’t see the signs.” Read More
From The Mayor’s Office:
“Mayor Muriel Bowser signed a Mayor’s Order requiring that by November 1, 2021 all adults who are regularly in schools and child care centers facilities in the District must be vaccinated against COVID-19. The Order further requires that, beginning November 1, 2021, students aged 12 and older must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to participate in school-based extracurricular athletics.
“We know that vaccinations are the most effective tool to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect children who are not yet eligible to receive the vaccine,” said Mayor Bowser. “This new mandate requirement, without a test-out option, will add another critical layer to the robust measures we have implemented to reopen our schools and keep our child care centers safe. We also know that sports are a high-risk activity. Requiring athletes to get vaccinated will ensure they not only stay safe, but also stay in the classroom and are able to participate in school-based extracurricular athletics.”
The vaccination requirements apply to all employees, contractors, interns, and volunteers working in person in a: Read More

“Dear PoPville,
I would LOVE to add some new books to the shelves when kids come back to school – I can’t think of a better way to welcome them back to their library! Daily reading for pleasure and information is such a critical part of literacy development, and the best way for me to help my students become passionate, proficient readers is stock the school library with books they just can’t put down.
I’ve purchased what I can afford out of pocket, but there are so many new, amazing, diverse books that I created a DonorsChoose project in case anyone wants to help me add to the library shelves. Until August 26th, DonorsChoose will double donations up to $50 with the code LIFTOFF.”
