metro

From WMATA:

“On Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Stadium-Armory and Downtown Largo on the Blue and Silver lines.

Rail service will be suspended at Benning Rd., Capitol Heights, Addison Rd., Morgan Blvd., and Downtown Largo. Crews will be working on air blown fiber installation. This installation method facilitates faster completion of the work, minimizing the need for longer station closures.

Fundraiser

Robert Yarbrough

“Dear PoPville,

Mt. Pleasant lost an icon. We are collecting to help offset funeral costs and support his family. You can read more about Robert from the fundraiser:

If you’d like to make a donation to help offset the funeral costs and support Robert’s family during this difficult time, please do so here.

Robert Yarbrough passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the hospital on March 29, 2026. Robert was beloved by many friends and family including those of us lucky enough to share the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood with him.

If you used to walk past his house on Newton St, chances are Robert greeted you from his perch on the stoop with a wave or friendly hello. Or, maybe, you got to know Robert from (more…)

Event

18th Street Singers presents Out of Many, One, a concert exploring the complexity, challenges, and possibilities of the American experience through a rich tapestry of choral music. Centered around Randall Thompson’s The Peaceable Kingdom, the program features music that reflects the breadth of the American experience, drawing from spirituals, folk traditions, and choral masterworks alongside contemporary voices redefining the genre today.

In this 250th anniversary year of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Out of Many, One reflects on the many voices, stories, and identities that shape our nation and invites audiences to imagine a more just, inclusive, and compassionate future.

Transit

From DDOT:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) released a report reviewing how automated vehicles (AV) are regulated across the United States. The report is meant to inform ongoing decision-making on how the District can regulate AVs, but does not make specific policy recommendations.

The DDOT report summarizes current AV technology, existing research, and different AV regulatory policy approaches being used by cities and states. It also includes insights from interviews with industry and safety experts and government agencies to better understand emerging practices and concerns. (more…)

Columbia Heights

“Dear PoPville,

The past two days there has been a woman sitting on the sidewalk and begging in Columbia Heights. She has a child – a girl maybe 3-4 years old always seeming to be asleep in her lap, but definitely not appearing to be a normal situation of a child napping.

Today (Wednesday) I passed 3 hours apart and the child was still “sleeping.” (more…)

Dupont Circle

1624 Q Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

There is a new Tonkatsu lunch venue on Q st, inside Hank’s. A Yakitori chef, Blake, started a lunch Tonkatsu pop-up from Tue to Fri at Hank’s Oyster Bar when they are not open. I think we haven’t had the real Tonkatsu in Washington DC until last month; the Tonkatsu at Katsu Kyu is fried in lard, which makes the deep flavor. Their Tonkatsu (I tried Loin) is thick, unlike thin slices you usually find in restaurants. Cooking thick meat perfectly requires knowledge and experience. (more…)
