“Dear PoPville,

We danced early in the night at the Baila Social Dance at La Cosecha on 7/10. You had dark hair, and were wearing a black sundress with a red and green floral pattern on it.

I was the dark-haired guy with a beard, wearing a brown button-through sweater polo and cream shorts.

You were forgiving of the fact that I was a complete beginner, and said that it was okay since you were new to it yourself. You joked about how we were the smart ones dressing for how hot it was on the dancefloor. While we were dancing, you said your name was ‘Raj.’ I didn’t think it was the right time to ask for your number, but I should have said that I wanted to keep dancing with you. I was hoping to be able to find you later in the night, however by the time I worked up the nerve you had already left.

If you see this, I’d love to grab a coffee or a drink sometime.

J.”

“Dear PoPville,

In today’s Metro ride news…

A guy got on at a stop at the very last minute…slid into the car sideways and everything. I actually looked at him and smiled in admiration at his skill/luck, though he didn’t notice.

So then he (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

6 months later…was a statement ever released at an appropriate time, or a plan of action re these long-abandoned properties?

I walk by these buildings often, and have been a Shaw resident for 20+ years so I know the probable answer to this question, but I thought maybe there might be some momentum by the DC govt and/or Shiloh after (more…)

City Kids

From MPD:

“The Juvenile Curfew Emergency Amendment Act of 2025 took effect on July 7, 2025. An 11:00 p.m. curfew is now in effect citywide every night for all persons age 17 and under though August 31, 2025.
What does the law say?

The Juvenile Curfew Emergency Amendment Act of 2025 states that persons age 17 or younger cannot remain in any public place or on the premises of any establishment within the District of Columbia during curfew hours, unless they are involved in certain exempted activities.

The law gives the Chief of Police the authority to establish Extended Juvenile Curfew Zones and allows the Mayor of the District of Columbia to authorize an Emergency Juvenile Curfew.
What are the curfew hours?

WHOA somehow I missed the sale of Culture House!! They shared June 18th:

“Hi there! We’ve got some news.

In June 2025, National Community Church purchased Culture House.

The church plans to continue offering Culture House as an art exhibit space and event venue, adding church and community events to the mix. The new owners also plan to retain the property’s iconic murals on the exterior and in the upstairs ballroom.

While multiple gallery directors have facilitated Culture House exhibitions, Cicie Sattarnilasskorn has been stewarding artists and projects within the space since January 2022.

In honor of all that has gone into Culture House so far, we will be running a retrospective of projects and programs in our stories now through June 25, 2025.

Everyone, show us your favorite moment at or in the space!

Artists and activators who have activated this space, show us something!”

Local rising kindergartener, Phin, has advanced to the Top 5 in his group in the national Jr. Ranger Contest, a competition that celebrates children who are passionate about nature, wildlife, and exploration. After making it through earlier rounds with strong family and friend support, Phin is now in 4th place and working toward the top spot needed to move on to the quarterfinals.

The contest encourages kids to engage with the outdoors and highlights their curiosity and love for learning about the natural world. For Phin and his family, this experience has been both exciting and meaningful, made even more special by the encouragement from friends, neighbors, and the broader community.
