“I live in Lanier Heights and for the past few weeks, we’ve noticed birds (not bats, like some initially thought) start to congregate and circle around the building around sundown. This dance starts with a few dozen and in 20 minutes there are thousands flying in circles in one direction then quickly switching course, moving around slightly until they abruptly start flying into the chimney of the building next door. Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

It’s been awhile (2014 and 2011) since this question came up, so I’m hoping you can help out. I’ve got a 15 year old Honda which, while it will run for years more to come, I’m ready to part with. Where in DC do people sell used cars? Is it worth trucking it out to a suburb (MD, VA, further) to sell to a place that has more drivers?”

“John Wall of the Wizard hangs out at Thai Chili.” inside 701 7th Street, NW via Facebook

“Dear PoPville,

My boyfriend and I ate at Thai Chili near Capital One Arena before the Caps game on October 5. We’ve eaten there sporadically before games, so the wait staff knows us. When we were there, one of the servers told us that this was their last year there and that when hockey season ended (the regular season ends in April; hopefully they’ll be playing into June), they would be leaving. Crime

From ANC Rep Alex Marriott:

“Many of you have reached out to ask about the recent shootings in the Shaw neighborhood and the steps MPD is taking to curb this violence. To respond to these questions, ANC 6E is holding an emergency special meeting at the Shaw (Watha T. Daniel) Library (1630 7th St., NW) on Wednesday (10/9) at 7:00 pm.

MPD Third District Commander Emerman will be in attendance, along with Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, to respond to our questions.

If you cannot make Wednesday’s meeting, ANC 6E is partnering with the United House of Prayer to hold a second meeting on the recent violence at 1721 7th St., NW at 6:00pm on Thursday (10/10).

Please come to one or both of these meetings and voice your concerns!”
