Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Dobby is a sweet, caring and wonderful dog. He has the cutest habit of sitting on a stool so he can watch out the window as his people leave and return home.

This fun boy is a loyal friend who loves to sit near (or on) his people and get belly rubs and ear scratches. When Dobby makes a new friend at the dog park, he gets the “zoomies” and starts running around in circles like an Olympic sprinter with his new friend! Dobby is happy to sit near you quietly all day or go for a long walk, whatever you prefer. He’s also a huge fan of playing with his toys, and when playtime is over, he drags them around the house as he lovingly follows his people around. He is a good learner, and he knows the command “leave it” and does very well with “drop it” if he isn’t feeling anxious. Dobby will do best in a home outside the city with another dog, and he is not a fan of loud mechanical noises. Dobby’s adopters will be very lucky indeed!

Dobby is adoptable through City Dogs Rescue. Learn more here.

Fern is a loving and playful cat. She is able to keep herself occupied throughout the day, playing well with other cats and the resident dog. She enjoys the simple toys, usually preferring a plastic spring or an old headband more than the fanciest and priciest toys! She’s also recently developed an affinity for an old comb and kept herself entertained for longer than one would anyone would suspect from an old comb. Maybe Fern has aspirations in the hair industry?!

Regardless of her career goals, Fern is very loving and often comes to lay on your chest in bed. If you’re on your phone, she’ll gently give it a nudge to let you know she’s more important than a screen (obviously). If you’re watching TV, she’ll often curl up behind you on the back of the sofa and relax right along with you. She LOVES to help you make the bed every morning. She has the uncanny ability to sense when you’re ready to make the bed even if she’s in the other room. You can bet for sure that she’ll dart into bedroom, make herself at home in the middle of the bed and supervise the activity. You’ll never have to make the bed alone with Fern around. Speaking of hometown pride, thanks to Pierce for passing on word from Sports Business Daily:

Scott Van Pelt‘s midnight “SportsCenter” will move to the host’s hometown of DC in August.

“I’m reaching out to Trouble Funk,” he said. “I’m trying to figure out how we can get a Go-Go version of the ‘SportsCenter’ theme. I want to have that in the bag of tricks. I want to be able to come back from commercial and have Go-Go music playing. That will say to anyone who understands that we’re back in the District.”

History

Last month I heard the famed singing man of Mount Pleasant (though I was in Van Ness at the time, I also heard him a couple weeks ago in Mount Pleasant, where I took the photo above.) After hearing him in Van Ness it brought me great joy so I tweeted:

Lisa was kind enough to reply with more info she had previously shared on the Adams Morgan listserv:

“Hola a todos,

My name is Lisa, and this is my first post since joining the online community. There was some recent discussion about a loudly singing man who has provoked an understandable reaction of intimidation, distress, and concern among some of his neighbors.

I just encountered this man for the first time since I moved to Adams Morgan a few months ago. He was indeed singing extremely loudly. I recalled our collective exchange and some specific questions about his mental health and safety. I approached him in that spirit, as well as to be neighborly.

When I did, he immediately stopped singing and we talked for about 15 minutes. Two relevant facts are 1) our conversation was entirely in Spanish, which I speak at a B-minus level, and 2) I’m a clinical psychologist who has some expertise in quickly assessing danger to self and others.

The gist of that exchange that I’d like to humbly share: (more…)

Event

To celebrate DC native Haili Blassingame’s debut novel, THEY ALL FALL IN LOVE AT THE END, Lost City Books is throwing a launch party themed around messy love stories. Haili, and a crew of writers she has assembled, will read excerpts from their work, but there will also be audience participation in the form of anonymously submitting messy dating stories. It’s going to be a night of laughter, of gasps, of books, of great company. Refreshments will be available. We can’t wait to see you there!

Bloomingdale

Thanks to ashleynmeadows for sending us the rather artistic, though painful sight from Bloomingdale.

Bill reports below: “Behold my car (that had wheel lock on it) first thing this morning. Here in Brookland. The police recommended that I get more surveillance cameras and said that they don’t have enough staff to adequately increase patrolling in our neighborhood. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!

It’s coincidentally my birthday so happy birthday to me.”

It had been 1 day since our last stolen wheels report.

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I’m the manager at Martha’s Table Outfitters.

Earlier this week, one of our team members came across an old monogrammed photo wallet in the pocket of a man’s suit jacket that was donated to us. We would love to reunite the item with its owner as it appears to be a lovely family keepsake.

The outside of the wallet is monogrammed with the initials R.L.P. and the inside has two wedding photos and a portrait photo of a woman. (more…)

From a press release:

“Award-winning restauranteur Ashok Bajaj is pleased to announce Knightsbridge Restaurant Group’s new fine dining concept Annabelle, located at 2132 Florida Ave., NW Washington, D.C. 20008. On January 17, 2020, Annabelle, the 95-seat, fully renovated legendary space will open for dinner. Located in the heart of the Kalorama neighborhood, Annabelle was designed by James Beard Foundation’s award-nominated restaurant designer Martin Vahtra of Projects Design Associates of New York. It is made up of three different historic buildings. The perfect balance of old and new, each room sports patterns on patterns, with artwork from Cara Tomlinson, the restaurant interior is contemporary, with a hint of mid-century modern vibe.

Bajaj tapped Frank Ruta as executive chef for his newcomer Annabelle. Ruta’s distinguished career spans over three decades and includes eleven years as executive sous chef at the White House, serving under three presidents and as owner/chef of the award-winning Palena. Prior to joining Annabelle, Ruta served as executive chef at the notable Mirabelle in Washington, D.C.
