Thanks to Toni for sending from Brentwood: “I thought the weird fall weather did the romanesco in, but the weird winter weather revived it. I’ve got 2 more still on the plants, plus broccoli and cauliflower, which will all get harvested this weekend. All out just in time to start seeds for the spring!”

Great Garden Haul is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

Ed. Note: Red Line riders please be aware that Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont stations will be closed this weekend for installation of cable/communication equipment.

From WMATA:

“Metrorail’s ridership growth trend can now be expressed in years, with the system posting a 4-percent increase in passenger trips for the 2019 calendar year, ending a downward trend that lasted most of the prior decade. Total rail ridership was 182 million trips, compared to 175 million in 2018, a net increase of seven million trips, reflecting increasing customer confidence in Metro’s reliability and on-time performance.

Ridership increased across all days of the week, including a 3.3 percent increase in weekday travel–the equivalent of 20,000 additional trips per commuting day. Metrorail’s average weekday ridership now stands at 626,000.

Notably, weekends accounted for a quarter of overall rail ridership growth, with average Saturday ridership increasing 9.4 percent to 264,000 trips, and average Sunday ridership increasing 6.5 percent to 168,000 trips. (more…)

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

Why does DCRA insist on requiring electric meters be displayed proudly on house facades? They are ruining the look of DC row homes. Why don’t they just require that the meters be wireless (if they don’t already) so ppl can hide them from sight or at least put them somewhere in the alley. This is just one of hundreds of examples.” (more…)

Circie is even more beautiful in person than in her pictures! Circie LOVES to play fetch and is amazing at it! Her energy level so far has been medium. She likes to run and fetch but most of the time is happy relaxing next to her foster or following her people around the house.

Circie does not jump when excited, although she does give a very warm greeting with tail wags and smiles! Circie gets along with other dogs. She hasn’t shown interest in chewing things that aren’t hers. She sleeps in a crate at night and doesn’t make a peep. Circie is a sweetie and a pleasure to have around!

Hi! Do you have a warm home with lots of snuggles and petting to be had? Or maybe a couple kitty treats with a nice spot in the spot? Any of that sounds good to me! I’m a mature gal who doesn’t need to be taught silly kitty behaviors, but I can still get down for playtime when it’s right! Aren’t I just the best of both worlds?
