“Calvert Woodley is changing hands. But, not to worry; the venerable destination for wine and cheese is staying in the family. Ed Sands, owner and operator since 1966, is passing the torch to his son, Michael Sands, who has worked in the business since 1998.

In one iteration or another, Calvert Woodley’s storied history began in 1946. One of the keys to the store’s success is the longevity of the staff, several of whom have been with the store for over 25 years, with a few at 40 years and still going! (more…)

“This afternoon at 1:30 PM, First District patrol officers heard gunshots in the 1300 block of Half St SW. They quickly stopped two potential shooters and recovered two illegal firearms. Later, a gunshot victim turned up at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. (more…)

“Improved E-bikes Return to Capital Bikeshare this Spring”

“1,500 new e-bikes will include new locking technology allowing parking outside of docks

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and its six partner jurisdictions announced that e-bikes will return to the Capital Bikeshare system this spring with a new mobile app experience that will include a hybrid locking technology.

“The return of the e-bikes is part of Mayor Bowser’s ongoing effort to improve active transportation and mobility in the District,” said DDOT Director Jeff Marootian. “These new and improved e-bikes will allow Capital Bikeshare riders to lock the bikes to bike racks at their destination, allowing unprecedented accessibility across all eight wards of the District.”

The 1,500 e-bikes will be added to the existing Capital Bikeshare fleet in a phased roll out throughout the spring. (more…)
