Cleveland Park

Earlier this morning when we posted about the coming closure of Firehook in Cleveland Park – a historical video gem emerged of the previous tenant (which is why they had such a great back patio.) Thanks to Justin Rood for passing on this extraordinary video found on Youtube about Roma from 1997:

“The last year in the life of the Roma, a legendary restaurant in Washington, DC that was a Cleveland Park staple from 1932 to its closing auction in 1997, along with adjoining tavern Poor Roberts. Posted in memory of owner Bobby Abbo.

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

Today is my boyfriend’s 30th birthday and I want to take him out to eat in DC or the waterfront/ old town Alexandria. We are being extra cautious around COVID and don’t want to sit inside so I have been calling quite a few of his favorite restaurants to discover they don’t have any outdoor seating. I know I waited until the last minute to ask for recommendations and you may not even be able to put this up today, but thought it might be a conversation worth having. So far we’ve only been to Lauriol Plaza (after seeing the mayor ate there) and have loved their outdoor seating setup. Shade, covered, plants, fans, super nice. Where are the other best outdoor seating setups?”

From City Winery (1350 Okie Street, NE):

“In light of current challenging conditions and in the interest of public safety, we have temporarily paused our operations at City Winery Washington DC.

The length of the temporary closure is unclear at this time, but we are optimistic that it will only last a short while. Ultimately, that timing will be dictated by uncontrollable factors that we are hopeful will work in our favor sooner than later.

This decision is not one that we took lightly, and one that has been made in order to preserve the continued existence of City Winery. I believe we will return stronger than ever to serving you, our incredible guests, putting on concerts, hosting private parties, and supporting our amazing team members, but for now, we are truly in survival mode.

Although this process has been more painful to endure than we initially thought, we will get through this.

In the meantime, take care of yourselves and your communities, and if you are able, please consider supporting City Winery by: (more…)
