From a press release:

“The team from Stable, DC’s only authentic Swiss restaurant, will expand their footprint on H Street when they take over the Gallery O on H patio at 1354 H Street NE on August 6th to debut Pier 1354, an outdoor seafood shack operating every Thursday through Saturday from 5-10 PM. Pier 1354 will bring the feel of lazy days spent by the water to the middle of the city with a menu featuring an array of fresh picks from the Chesapeake Bay and beverage offerings including Stable’s signature frozen Schnapsicles and classic warm weather cocktails with a local spin. The nearly 2,000 square foot patio will lend a come-as-you-are, laid-back atmosphere where guests will be welcome to leisurely sip drinks while getting their hands dirty digging into a seafood feast in the outdoor oasis with an Eastern Shore vibe. Bars

1939 12th Street, NW

Earlier this week we reported that Barkada, a New Natural Wine Bar, would be opening just off U Street:

“Barkada, a Filipino slang word meaning a group of friends…”

The first comment from Camille was:

“Nothing about this wine bar is Filipino. Absolutely NOTHING.

Interesting that they’d choose to use this word yet they don’t have anything remotely connected (socially, culturally, historically) to the country it originated from.

Wine, cheese, charcuterie, tinned fish?… none of their offerings are Filipino.”

Ed. Note: Yesterday there were 12,057 total positives.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“The District’s reported data for Thursday, July 30, 2020 includes 69 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 12,126.

The District reported one additional COVID-19 related death.

· 80-year-old male

Tragically, 585 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

The community spread chart is subject to fluctuation because the data is based on symptom onset date. As national demand for testing increases and results take longer to come back in DC and across the country, DC Health has identified a need to increase the reporting lag time by four days to reduce volatility in the data. The most recent data reflects an increase in community spread. To ensure this graph accurately reflects the most recent data, the community spread count is being paused as these adjustments are made.” (more…)

Dupont Circle

1517 Connecticut Avenue, NW

Back in May we we shared the WBJ story:

“It’s official: Kramerbooks owner Steve Salis says he’s ready to move the hybrid bookshop-cafe out of its Dupont Circle home.”

Thanks to all who sent the Washingtonian update:

“Owner Steve Salis says the move won’t happen any sooner than three years from now, and could be as far off as six years (when the lease ends). So in the meantime, he figures he might as well spruce the whole place up a bit with a new look, new restaurant, and new additions like a flower and barber shop.”

Ok then.

Help the District name the Ward 1 Short-term Family Housing building!

The Department of Human Services (DHS), in partnership with the Department of General Services (DGS), is building a Short-term Family Housing program in Ward 1, as part of the District’s all 8 Ward strategy. This smaller, service-enriched program is located at 2500 14th Street and will begin serving families experiencing homelessness early next year. It will also include 15 units of permanent supportive housing for senior women.

DHS is inviting residents to help us name the building!

Through August 15, 2020, DHS will solicit suggested names with a brief rationale for the suggested name. (more…)
