Office of the Attorney General

From the Office of the Attorney General (OAG):

“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced that the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has secured a $259,294 judgment against Michael Redmond, a former assistant principal at Stephen E. Kramer Middle School in Ward 8, for defrauding the District by taking a full-time, in-person job in Rhode Island while he was supposed to be working remotely for the DC Public Schools (DCPS). The court determined that Redmond “engaged in conduct that showed a willful disregard for the truth and a willingness to engage in defrauding the District of Columbia,” knowingly collecting more than $45,000 of his DCPS salary for work he did not complete. The court imposed treble damages and civil penalties for violating the District’s False Claims Act. (more…)

Dupont Circle

1723 Connecticut Ave, NW

From ABCA:

“On September 10, 2025, the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA) and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) shut down two businesses for illegal cannabis sales.

The Closure Orders were executed at Chocolate City Wellness, a licensed retailer, and Citgo Gas Station, an unlicensed retailer, due to activities that posed an imminent danger to public health and safety, specifically the sale of illegal cannabis products that were untested by a licensed testing laboratory and lacked the required labeling.

The operation was part of the city’s ongoing enforcement efforts following the enactment of the Medical Cannabis Conditional License and Unlicensed Establishment Closure Clarification Emergency Amendment Act of 2024, which granted ABCA new civil enforcement powers. Since the bill took effect on July 15, 2024, joint agency efforts have resulted in the padlocking of 71 illegal cannabis businesses.
