Letter from Board of Jenkins Row. See last paragraph. After the Potomac Ave Harris Teeter moved out, they’ve blocked any new prospective tenants from seeing the property. They hold the lease for 8 more years and early indications are they plan to keep the lease to keep the property vacant — maybe to stop another grocery store from moving in.
‘Many residents have asked us about the future of the Harris Teeter space. We have been informed that Harris Teeter’s lease with Edens has eight years to run, and that Harris Teeter has not permitted Edens to show the store to prospective tenants. On the one hand, this means that the store may remain dark for a considerable period. On the other, however, it means that the REA, through Edens, can require Harris Teeter to pay for necessary measures to secure the property it leases. At this time, we have no information about any future plans Harris Teeter may have for this property.’
