5th and N Street, NW

Multiple readers have reported about this unsettling situation the last few days (and weeks.) You can follow @PoPville on twitter if interested in getting the real time reports. From Sunday night and Monday night:

“I was walking by N and 5th St NW and heard 20-25 gunshots/fireworks. Anyone else hear or see anything?”

“another round, in the exact same@ spot as last night at least 20 shots on the street. Sirens approaching, happened about 2 minutes ago. Any news??”

“Gunshots. Cops are on site now and chopper is circling. Second shooting at 5th & N this week – other was Thursday night”

ANC Rep Rachelle Nigro wrote on IG: “6E04! Update on the shots fired on the 400 block of N St. The detectives are still on the scene. Bullets went into homes across from the Cooperative and into cars. Again luckily no one was injured or killed.”

Another reader reports via email:

“The last two nights have seen drive-by shootings into a housing complex’s parking lot. Given how many shots were fired (maybe 18 tonight, more than (dozens?) last night, it’s a miracle that apparently no one was hurt – last night there was a Labor Day weekend barbecue taking place right next to the crime scene but people were able to scramble to safety (at least the ones who didn’t – according to my neighbors – run after the getaway car yelling at the perpetrators!)

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, DC Health released an updated list of high-risk states where the seven-day moving average of daily new COVID-19 cases is 10 or more per 100,000 persons. Mayor Bowser issued Mayor’s Order 2020-081 with requirements for all people traveling into Washington, DC from high-risk states.

Individuals traveling from high-risk states after essential travel or arriving in the District for essential travel are required to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days and, if they show signs or experience symptoms of COVID-19, they are to self-quarantine and seek medical advice or testing.

Travel to and from Maryland and Virginia is exempt from the Order. This list should be used until Monday, September 21, when an updated list will be posted on coronavirus.dc.gov.

Ed. Note: Yesterday there were 14,279 total positives.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“The District’s reported data for Sunday, September 6, 2020 includes 36 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 14,315.

The District reported no additional COVID-19 related deaths.

Tragically, 611 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

The community spread chart is subject to fluctuation because the data is based on symptom onset date. As national demand for testing increases and results take longer to come back in DC and across the country, DC Health has identified a need to increase the reporting lag time by four days to reduce volatility in the data. The most recent data reflects an increase in community spread. To ensure this graph accurately reflects the most recent data, the community spread count is being paused as these adjustments are made.” (more…)

Updates when/if a full report is released.

Ed. Note: Rebellion opened in the former Mum Mum space back in 2014.

Rebellion DC writes:

“Due to the economic hardships placed on our industry and us personally as a business, we can confirm that the difficult decision to close Rebellion DC has been made. Being shut down three separate times due to COVID-19 and a landlord unwilling to work with us on any type of rent reduction and/or deferment has made for an untenable situation. This is the most heartbreaking decision we have ever had to make. We wish the best to others who find themselves in a similar situation during this pandemic, because this sucks. (more…)

Columbia Heights

Readers reported (follow @PoPville on twitter if interested in real time reports):

“Getting so tired of typing this: shots fired near 14th and Fairmont in Columbia Heights”

“Another day another shooting near my house in Columbia Heights. 4-5 shots fired around 3:23 PM near 14th & Euclid or 14th & Fairmont.

As of 5:17pm there have been no reports from MPD so presumably nobody was injured. Will update if any official info becomes available.
