Yesterday an ANC Rep asked MPD: “Can you share any information on the sounds of gunfire or shots fired around the 300 block of Delafield on September 5, 2020 around 10pm.”

An MPD Captain replied:

“On Saturday September 5, 2020, at approximately 10:00pm, Fourth District units responded to the 4800 block of 4th ST NW, in reference to a call for sounds gunshots. Upon their arrival they located several shell casing and 1 damaged vehicle. There were no reported injuries at the time.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to call MPD on 202-727-9099.”

Last night a reader tweeted us at 12:52 AM (technically Wed. morning):

Over 15 shots just heard around 5th and Delafield NW”

Updates when/if more is known about that incident.

Ed. Note: Yesterday there were 14,362 total positives.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“The District’s reported data for Tuesday, September 8, 2020 includes 25 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 14,387.

The District reported four additional COVID-19 related deaths.

· 63-year-old female
· 74-year-old female
· 83-year-old female
· 95-year-old female

Tragically, 615 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

The community spread chart is subject to fluctuation because the data is based on symptom onset date. As national demand for testing increases and results take longer to come back in DC and across the country, DC Health has identified a need to increase the reporting lag time by four days to reduce volatility in the data. The most recent data reflects an increase in community spread. To ensure this graph accurately reflects the most recent data, the community spread count is being paused as these adjustments are made.” (more…)

From the Mayor’s Office last night:

“Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District of Columbia Department of Employment Services (DOES) announced approval of the District’s application to participate in the Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) Program, which was created in response to the expiration of the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) $600 weekly benefit in July.

The funds will allow the District to offer an additional unemployment compensation benefit of $300 per week to eligible unemployment insurance recipients. To be eligible for this benefit, individuals must have a weekly benefit amount of at least $100 per week from an approved unemployment compensation program and must certify that they are unemployed or partially unemployed due to disruptions caused by COVID-19. Payments would be retroactive to August 1, 2020 and the District expects recipients will start receiving payments by the first week of October. (more…)

Got tons of queries, understandably, about this last night starting around 9pm:

“anyone else send you pics of this huge beam of light that appears to be coming from the Pentagon?”

“Spotlight pointed straight into the sky near Pentagon City Metro with a chopper in the distance. Anyone know what’s going on?”

Fox5 reported that it was a practice for:

“This Wednesday, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation will illuminate its ‘Towers of Light’ tribute next to the Pentagon in honor of the lives lost in Flight 77 there on September 11, 2001.”
