“Thursday eve… I was walking across 16th and columbia with my bike- gold pants and a white seinfeld tshirt. You were walking the opposite way with a rake- in some sort of blue jacket. My glasses were on my forehead (stupid mask fog) and I couldn’t tell if we we’re making a ton of eye contact, were we making a lot of eye contact?? I think we were.

Regardless, I was in a huge hurry to fix my bike before close and you were clearly going somewhere very urgent with that rake. Was this a missed connection?”

Ed. Note: If this is you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about past missed connections, some have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made.

Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Meet Kashi! As you can tell from her expression, Kashi is a kitty who knows her worth, and expects you to know it, too! This senior lovebug is super-affectionate, with a friendly and calm personality. Kashi gets along with dogs, so long as they have her same level of chill, but would do best as the only cat in the home. This laid-back and loving girl is approximately 15 years old and takes daily thyroid medication, but is otherwise in good health and excellent spirits, and still has many years of pets and snuggles to share. Say hi to Max, a 7 ½ year old, 70-lb. American English Coonhound looking for a family with whom he can spend his golden years. Max was adopted from a Richmond shelter a few years ago, but his adoptive family’s circumstances changed and now Max is in a great foster home, ready to find his forever family! Max’s foster mom says that he is good company – loving and laid back. He gets along with his foster dog brother, and loves to go on walks, lay out in the sun, or just take naps! Max would do best in a family with no or older children, as he can sometimes be easily startled. He will need regular exercise to keep a healthy weight and keep up his socialization, and would love a backyard to run around in! Handsome Max has lots of love to share. Thanks to J. for sending:

“They haven’t responded to any outreach yet, but it looks like Merzi in Chinatown/Penn Quarter may be closed for good. Their social media stopped a few months ago. Their Merzi Cares site (which organized a lot of good help for medical professionals in the middle of a pandemic) now 404s. Most tellingly, all their furniture and the usual “fast casual” serving line has all been removed from the floor. (more…)

“One of the lesser known alleys in Washington, DC is F Street Terrace (originally known as Marks Court) on Capitol Hill. Along with Gessford Court (which I highlighted last week), F Street Terrace is one of the original alley dwellings in DC. Within this backstreet, there is a much smaller U-shaped alley that is known as Archibald Walk. You might have heard of Archibald Walk and its controversial treehouse a few years ago. Together, F Street Terrace and Archibald Walk make a beautiful little oasis right in the heart of Capitol Hill.”

14th and P Street, NW

Earlier this week I started to get multiple sad reader reports:

“I was just at the Dolcezza at 14th and P and heard the Barista say that they are closing that location soon.”

I was really hoping for a false alarm when I didn’t hear back from emails sent. Alas, I placed a call to the Logan location and they confirm that Dolcezza’s last day in Logan Circle will likely be Thursday October 1st. This is terrible, terrible news. (more…)

Local rising kindergartener, Phin, has advanced to the Top 5 in his group in the national Jr. Ranger Contest, a competition that celebrates children who are passionate about nature, wildlife, and exploration. After making it through earlier rounds with strong family and friend support, Phin is now in 4th place and working toward the top spot needed to move on to the quarterfinals.

The contest encourages kids to engage with the outdoors and highlights their curiosity and love for learning about the natural world. For Phin and his family, this experience has been both exciting and meaningful, made even more special by the encouragement from friends, neighbors, and the broader community.
