Capitol Hill

“Dear PoPville,

I don’t know if anyone else in the city experienced this but my neighbors (and the front of my house) were shot by drive by paint ballers last night on the hill (like a block behind the library of Congress). I don’t know if it was the beginnings of election mayhem or just bored teenagers but it was really something else.”

Thanks to Tim for passing on the terrible news from Pleasant Pops:

“We are saddened to announce that we will be closing our doors on Sunday, November 29, 2020 due to a vacate notice. After a successful 8 years of business, it is with a heavy heart that we announce our departure from our flagship location. Thank you to the Adams Morgan community — a community that has so generously and graciously given us endless memories and a place to call home.

Although we are grief stricken by this unexpected news, we are determined to rise above the barriers and reemerge Pleasant Pops with a new, but familiar concept. (more…)

Zoo

From the Smithsonian’s National Zoo:

“On Saturday, our giant panda family got into the Halloween spirit, thanks to the talented team in our Department of Nutrition Sciences. They whipped up some not-so-spooky “snack-o-lantern” treats for male Tian Tian and female Mei Xiang made of shredded carrots, applesauce and diluted apple juice pressed into a pumpkin using a Jack-O-Lantern-shaped mold. Keepers presented our 10-week-old cub with a pumpkin as well. Many of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo’s animals receive pumpkins as a fun enrichment item on Halloween because it gives them something new to smell, touch and investigate.”

Casings were from 3 separate firearms. It may have started in front of Holiday Inn on C St. SW” (more…)

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I’m a poll worker and have been working early voting at Kennedy Rec Center for the past week. Today [Monday] a woman walked in with her two daughters. She semi-nervously asked me, “Can I register to vote today? I just became a citizen today.” She had literally come from the ceremony to the polling place. (more…)
