“Dear PoPville,

Did the Burger King on Connecticut Avenue finally close? It’s disappeared from GrubHub/DoorDash and the website says “closed” for every day of the week now.”

Not sure what’s going on with the websites but every time I walk by the Burger King has been open for take out and drive thru. STAY TUNED.

If you’ve never been blessed to see some amazing photos of the inside here.

Crime

Matt writes: “Just a heads up from the Shaw area. Just found video of this from boxing day while we’re asleep. We notified the police but nothing they could do. Thankfully neighbors dog scared them away. Other neighbors have had things stolen from yards like bikes in the past months so this seems to be becoming a more common thing. Will be letting our dog play in the yard more often now.”

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I’m hoping to crowdsource better options for rapid COVID testing or 24-hour turnaround tests. My partner is a front-line worker, and as a result, I have gotten tested many times over the past seven months. The hospital does not provide easy testing options for their employees or spouses, so each time I need to get a test, I find myself in the same Google search spiral, only to wind up with the same options.

I’ve gotten tests at the DC firehouses, CVS, and Walgreens, as well as through Pixel by LabCorp and Let’s Get Checked. While I think all of these options have timing down to an average of 3-4 days, it remains incredibly difficult to find options for rapid tests or reliably faster turnarounds. (more…)

Thanks to Noa and others for sending: “The Peet’s Coffee on 14th was closed all of the pandemic and I just walked by today and it no longer looks like they might re open. All the signs of Peet’s are gone and the windows have paper in them.”

Sadly we learned that they’d be permanently closing over the summer. This Peet’s Coffee opened here, in the former Vastu space, back in 2016.

“Dear PoPville,

It was lost somewhere on 1st street NW between big bear cafe and children’s National hospital when I was walking my dog. Would love to get it back! It was a gift when I was born from my grandpa.”

and

“Dear PoPville,

Last night someone ditched a large box of tools, small blue cooler, and a hand vacuum on the sidewalk in front of my house in Lamond-Riggs/Takoma. The tools look like they may belong to an electrician or a contractor that does something similar, and judging from the amount of things in there, I have a feeling they are very missed right now.

If anyone is able to help identify who might be missing these tools, I would love for them to be reunited!”

Alex writes: “Assuming this is based on its external appearance and not based on any insights, but has anyone heard anything here?”

Having once prematurely shared a rumor of Dan’s Cafe’s possible demise years ago, I was certain not to make the same mistake twice. As I was investigating this weekend I had the good fortune of running into the owner on 18th Street who assured me that Dan’s Cafe would be reopening when the District gets to phase three. So STAY TUNED for that. And thank the Gods.
