Dear PoPville

Ed. Note: Not the window in question, just a window I like a lot

“Dear PoPville,

I just bought a townhouse on H and 13th st NE (YAY!) and there are still burglar bars on the basement windows… do you think they are still necessary in that area? I’m personally an overly trusting person, but I feel like they are unnecessary in 2021. Any thoughts?”

Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by a volunteer who compiles these pets weekly from local shelters.

Gigi is a shorthair dilute torbie with a ringtail like a lemur!

She’s a petite senior girl with a demanding meow (and sometimes the most adorable squeaks) when she wants food, treats, or to play, and a little whisper meow paired with head-bonks when she wants attention or a lap snuggle. She especially likes to lie half-on and half-off a lap.

Like any cat, she will also want some time to herself, resting on (and sometimes, under) the bed, her warming pad, or a cat tree by a window. She doesn’t object to being picked up and carried, but will only tolerate it for so long. She likes pets and brushing on the head and front shoulders.

She’s usually pretty chill and enjoys her beauty-naps (usually holding her back feet with her front paws, so cute). She’s also quite playful. Her favorite toy so far is a length of yellow rope that she’ll chase, swat, and even carry around once she’s made her catch. Playing with her rope while in a box or on top of plastic pags is a particular enjoyment of hers, and if she has a tunnel to play in or stalk through, so much the better (her fosters made one out of exercise mats). She also enjoys chasing a feather- or mousie-on-a-string toy. She will also play with ribbons, strings, and the little plastic loops from milk jug lids.

Quincy is a sweet 2 year old German Shepherd/American Staffordshire Terrier mix. He loves going to dog parks where he can exercise those legs. He loves his humans and would do best in a home where he’s the sole recipient of your affection! He does best with older children.

Quincy has an average activity level & likes to go on 2-3 walks a day. He’d be a great running & hiking companion. He’d love nothing more than to find his forever home! To learn more about Quincy, contact Fancy Cats and Dogs: [email protected]

“Dear PoPville,

I’m a Columbia Heights resident looking to do a relatively small upgrade to my condo in the form of a washer/dryer addition, however I’ve hit a wall finding a good DC-area mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineer who is willing to take on a small project. I’d even pay extra to make up for the limited size of the project – would you be willing to post and see if anyone has suggestions of MEP engineers they’ve worked with? Clearly this is a thing that someone, somewhere must have accomplished!”

Anacostia

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I are starting to look for our first home to buy. Based on both price and proximity to our jobs, homes east of the river are appealing to us. I’m not too familiar with the area though, and wondering what others experience living in the area is like. We also have a young daughter who will start school in about 2 years, so I’m wondering about schools too. We’re looking from Anacostia/Hillcrest to Deanwood.”
