Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share a concern about the park across the street, which many of us in the neighborhood love and use regularly. Renovation work started around July 2025 and then stopped pretty abruptly around August. For a while, there was no information about why the work paused, and eventually a rumor started circulating that human remains had been found. Later, the park’s newsletter confirmed that this was true.

Recently, on a day when the park was unexpectedly open and the construction barriers were down, my partner and I walked over to take a look. Near the areas where digging had been happening, we saw piles of dirt with visible human bone fragments mixed in. (more…)

Note: The Matchbox closed here back in September 2020. Matchbox opened here  back in late 2012. Historically the space was home to Arena Stage’s Living Stage outreach theater which had been long closed/vacant prior to Matchbox’s opening here.

ICYMI: July 29, 2021 – Check outs some great photos of Capa Tosta, recently opened on Sherman Ave.

When you go to the Capa Tosta‘s website it has this message on it saying that it is closed. Looks like it may be changing to an Ulivo restaurant similar to the one they have in NYC.”

Well this is wild. A liquor license placard for Dos Locos has been applied for at 3116 Mount Pleasant Street, NW – which is currently home to the long standing Mount Pleasant institution – Dos Gringos. When I walked by the placard wasn’t actually posted and a worker looked at my like I was crazy when I asked if they’d heard about it.
