First Crumbs and now another reader reports:
“Famous Famiglia closed in Union Station. It’s been closed since last Saturday. Heard they couldn’t afford the rent.”

A reader reports:
“Not sure it’s a great loss, but it looks like Crumbs in Union Station has cleared out (again).”
I guess now’s as good a time as any to ask – what’s your current favorite food option in Union Station? Like a moth to a flame I am drawn to Taco Bell every time. You?

“Dear PoPville,
Just an FYI for everyone. There is a red light camera at New York Ave and Florida Ave. It occasionally takes a photo if you turn right on red. Right turn on red at that light is legal, but contesting the ticket does nothing. I’ve now paid $300 here! Don’t turn right on red!”

Remember compact discs? Remember DVDs? Remember Tower Records? Remember Stetson’s and Millie & Al’s? Wait, what the hell am I remembering? Ah, Fye Music and Movies in Union Station. Yes. Some pretty good sales for those who do like that stuff. And random, random clothing and assorted bric a brac. Anyway you got till mid-late January to get some deals:

I love the Christmas Tree from Norway and it’s finally inside again now that the Union Station renovation has been completed:

This is the 20th anniversary of Norwegian Christmas at Union Station. Thank you Norway! And be sure to check out their poster display of the polar regions too.

Thanks to a reader for passing on from the Flats 140 building:
“As many of you have noticed, some construction has begun next door to our building. We know this comes quite concerning to many of you, and understandably so. Our highest priority is to keep you as informed as possible with any and all information we receive from the developers. They have been quite forthright with us so we are hopeful we will be able to provide frequent and needed updates.
Currently, the work you have likely seen or heard is the removal of the existing glass on the first 7 floors of the south facade of the existing building (referred to as OB3). That building will be connected to the new building, which the developers refer to as OB4. This work will continue into mid-December. If you have heard rumors regarding the occupying tenants of the future buildings, they are correct. The DOJ will be in the new OB4 building as well as the existing OB3 building. We have attached a rendering of the future structure. (above)
The loudest part of construction tends to be the excavation process, usually the first step in construction. This was originally planned for this month but has been put on hold due to the WMATA Safe Track currently affecting the NoMa neighborhood. (more…)
