As some of you may have already heard, PN Hoffman has submitted plans to ANC1C for the proposed re-development of the lot where the SunTrust building and plaza currently sit at the corner of Columbia Road NW and 18th Street NW. The plans that were provided to ANC1C show a substantial building that almost completely eliminates the plaza. The plans are now posted on ANC1C’s website. (more…)

“We’re sad to say that we’ll be closing our Adams Morgan location for good on April 30th and reopening at 3289 M Street NW on May 2nd. We love Adams Morgan and will miss it dearly but we’re also SO EXCITED to move Violet to a much larger space and bring our brand and exceptional customer service to Georgetown!

Since we’re moving moving to Georgetown at the end of April, we wanted to show our appreciation for all that our neighbors in Adams Morgan have given us over the last 5 years. It’s Official, San Fran’s Philz Coffee opening in Adams Morgan March 26th

Store leader Bridget McKay says mark March 26th as the official opening for Philz Coffee in Adams Morgan. She also says there will likely be some test runs open to the public beforehand so stay tuned for another coffee option in Adams Morgan very very soon. They’re located around the corner from the just opened and already popular Tail Up Goat.

“Leap Day comes but once every four years and Jack Rose Dining Saloon is celebrating the extra day to drink with an Allagash Leap Day Bash on Monday, February 29 from 5-8pm on the heated Rooftop Terrace.

Beer Director Nahem Simon has been collecting special vintage beers for years, and is pulling out rarities from Portland, Maine’s Allagash Brewing Co., dating back to 2013 for a nine-tap takeover. Special releases from years past, which are no longer available elsewhere, such as the Confluence 2013, a Belgian strong pale ale fermented with Brettanomyces, and Fluxus 2013, a porter-style ale brewed with blood oranges, will all be available for $5 throughout the event:

Hopslam vs Nugget Nectar Battle Royale at The Black Squirrel Friday – Plus my favorite beer of the moment

Note: It’s been a while since I shared a PoP proclamation so let me have a go – while I like both these beers very very much – the best beer I’ve had in a long long time comes from a local(ish) brewery called RAR brewing out of Cambridge, Maryland. Not a double IPA but the Nanticoke Nectar is especially awesome (I’ve seen it at Nanny O’Briens and a few grocery stores.) If you happen to see it – I highly recommend you take a taste. Ok back to our regularly scheduled post.

Owners Jon Sybert, Jill Tyler, and Bill Jensen have been working in Washington area restaurants for over three decades collectively. They came together to open the kind of comfortable neighborhood joint they would want to frequent themselves. Adams Morgan is the corner of the city they call home, and they are thrilled to be doing business in this vibrant, historic community.

The three partners met working side by side at local institutions Komi and Little Serow. They soon came to realize that they shared the same sense of pride in their jobs and decided it might be fun to have a place of their own. When a former regular named Kevin Doyle joined up as their financial backer, this dream became a reality.

Tail Up Goat is the type of spot where you can just as easily grab a quick bite on the way home or settle in for a more leisurely celebration. The food and drink are soulful and sophisticated with a special emphasis on pasta and bread along with idiosyncratic, food-friendly tipples and soft drinks. You are just as likely to discover something new and wildly unexpected as settle into a stunning take on an old forgotten favorite.

The restaurant’s name is a nod to the U.S. Virgin Islands, Jill’s childhood home. She and Jon tied the knot on her favorite beach, and Bill occasionally joins them on vacation along with his wife.
