Ed. Note: This is the former Senor Chicken space that a commenter said was becoming a Ethiopian Restaurant back in January.

From a press release:

“Arriving in the spring of 2016 at the corner of 14th Street and Park Road (3100 14th Street) is LeTena, a new, fast casual concept Ethiopian restaurant that will feature authentic Ethiopian dishes and a coffee house with barista. (more…)

Trust me. Also Ivy City would definitely benefit from a Streetcar line here…seriously!

Anyway two new restaurants coming to the beautiful Hecht’s Warehouse – Ari’s Diner and La Puerta Verde. Their liquor license placards say:

Ari’s Diner

New Restaurant serving American food while training individuals to work within the restaurant industry. Total Occupancy Load is 115. Sidewalk Café for 15 patrons.

La Puerta Verde

New Restaurant serving Mexican food. Total Occupancy Load is 120. Sidewalk Café for 15 patrons.”

Stay tuned for many, many more developments coming here.

From a press release:

“Fainting Goat to Host Intimate Swiss-Inspired Raclette Party, A Tableside Melted Cheese Fest + Dipping Accoutrements and Ice Cold Brews

Diners can cozy up around a sizzling cheese-filled skillet with a cold beer and good company as Chef Nathan Beauchamp introduces Raclette Parties

WHAT: Deep in the valley of the Swiss Alps, the Raclette tradition was born,
where local herdsmen would set up camp in the colder months and melt cheese on rocks near an open fire to fill their bellies and keep warm. When The Fainting Goat’s Executive Chef Nathan Beauchamp visited a dear friend and cheesemaker in Switzerland several years back, he too was introduced to this delicious, family-celebrated and age-old tradition, which he has decided to bring to the District for one night only in true Swiss fashion. On Friday, March 11th at 8:00 PM, The Fainting Goat will open its doors for their very first Swiss-inspired Raclette Party, an evening chock full of copious amounts of gooey melted cheese, dippable accoutrements, Butterscotch budino, ice cold beer and the finest DC company for $65 a person. “Dear PoPville,

You posted about this place, but I have to give it a plug and also think your readers might be able to help the owner, who is a lovely woman. First, the food. It was delicious and felt very authentic. It’s a very cool place inside as well. I highly recommend people check it out. It hasn’t got a the lime light that other new places get, but the owner clearly takes pride in her work and that is reflected in her food.

Second, she just got her liquor license. And her 2015 license expires at the end of March. That means she paid for a year ( a lot of money), but will only be able to use it for a month. She has to pay new fees at the end of the month. So she paid a full year and will get a month. I wonder if any of your readers could help her?”

Perhaps this’ll soften the sting of the Crane & Turtle news – Slim’s Diner is hiring a General Manager:

“Slim’s Diner is a new Diner coming to the Petworth neighborhood in early April. Slim’s Diner is a traditional diner open early to late, serving breakfast all day long. Our in-house baker will produce pies, cakes, biscuits, brownies, doughnuts and much more.

We are seeking a General Manager to lead our team in the opening of Washington’s next great neighborhood spot.

Hours of Operation:
Sunday – Thursday: 7am to Midnight
Friday & Saturday: 7am to 2am”

Fingers crossed that Bagels & Baguettes finds a new location soon. A neighbor on the scene collecting signatures of support said that it’s possible they could move back to this location after the renovation but it would be at least a year away. Stand by for updates if they return here at some point or find a new location.

From Crane & Turtle:

“After much careful consideration, Crane & Turtle has decided to close our doors on Sunday, April 24, 2016.

Husband & wife team, Executive Chef Makoto Hamamura & Pastry Chef Katy Kinch, will be relocating to New York to pursue future career opportunities and to be closer to family. Chef Makoto (whose mother and aunt are named Crane and Turtle, respectively, in Japanese) is so intertwined in the identity and success of the restaurant that no replacement will do.

We are proud of the work we have done to create a unique dining experience that combined all of our team’s passions: chef-driven inventive cuisine, engaging service, exceptional wines & beverages, thoughtful design, and most importantly, camaraderie & community.

We feel truly honored to have been a part of special moments in our guests’ lives ranging from engagements to birthdays to a memorable night out with dear friends. We hope that you will look back on an evening spent at Crane & Turtle with same fondness as we all will.

We would like to especially applaud all of our remarkable staff that has worked so diligently everyday. Crane & Turtle could have never accomplished the high degree of critical acclaim without each and every one of you.

We cannot thank Petworth enough for welcoming us with open arms and not only being loyal patrons, but becoming our friends. This is an incredible neighborhood with so much heart. We feel very privileged to have called it “home.”

We are looking forward to the next few weeks of service. We see this time as a period of celebration. We certainly hope that you will be a part of it.

Thank you all & cheers, The Crane & Turtle Family”
