I believe the expression is boom!

Update: Or potentially boom. Cava Grill updates me via email saying this is not a done deal and that no lease has been signed yet. Updates when/if the deal is sealed.

Ed. Note: Back in March we noted that the building was on the market originally listed at $3,000,000. In July it sold for $1,150,000. Updates as construction progresses for Cava.

cappy
828 Upshur Street, NW

Word is finally out on who’s taking over the Cappy’s Crabs space on Upshur – City Paper reports:

“While Japan will be the leading culinary influence for both the food and drinks, the restaurant is very much wrapped up in the personalities and viewpoints of its young, first-time restaurateurs. [Carlie Steiner and Kevin Tien] That’s why they’re dubbing it “New Japanese” cuisine because Tien, the executive chef, will punch up traditional Japanese preparations with Latin, Southeast Asian, and Korean flavors.

Himitsu will start by serving dinner Tuesdays-Saturdays from 5 p.m. to close. They will not take reservations. Instead, seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Mid-October is the projected opening date.”

On Facebook they shared on Saturday:

“Gettin’ lit @himitsudc // see you in a few weeks!!”

Stay tuned for an exact opening date.

5777 proving to be a very good year already for folks who live or work in Navy Yard. You’re getting a Bethesda Bagels early next year!

The owners tell me the lease was just signed but they are “Planning on opening sometime in the first quarter of 2017.”

Bethesda Bagels opened their first District location in Dupont Circle back in 2011 and it is never not crowded. (RIP Johnny Rockets, anyone remember Johnny Rockets?)

It’ll be in the new building right outside the metro station at M and New Jersey Ave, SE:

From a press release:

“&pizza, the brand of unconventional pizza shops known for their craft pizza, and soda and ampersand-tattooed employees, announces the opening of its 16th shop in Chinatown at 705 H Street NW. The new location, which will open its doors today, marks the launch of &pizza’s new curated beverage concept that includes three signature cocktails, as well as the option for a dining experience with elevated service.

The bi-level space will offer two distinct guest experiences. The first floor of the shop channels the hustle of Chinatown focused on take-out, ideal for &pizza’s new order ahead app feature that allows guests to jump the line.

The second floor offers a more elevated dine-in experience. A mural-adorned staircase welcomes diners to another level of the shop where they can order, take a seat and for the first time have &pizza Tribe members deliver pies and signature &bar cocktails right to their table. (more…)
