“Dear PoPville,

I’m a DC resident with the car registered in DC with a clean title. I’m selling it on facebook marketplace and already have a bunch of prospective offers. I figured I’d take off the license plates but how do I legally transfer the title and registration to the new owner? Anyone have any insight?”

“Dear PoPville,

I have a bit of a complicated situation (related to the DMV) that I could use some help with. I moved to DC in May with my car. In January I was in an accident and my car was declared a total loss by the insurance agency, despite it only being minor damage. Fast forward to now and my car is finally fixed, but from what I understand I can’t legally drive it unless it gets inspected by the DMV. Is this right? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Question for readers re: vehicle inspection/registration. Our inspection/registration expired in April 2020. At the time DC DMV extended expiration dates until the public health emergency ends. New annual RPP Fees per household are: 1st Vehicle–$50, 2nd Vehicle–$75, 3rd Vehicle–$100, and $150 for each vehicle thereafter.  Also, one senior RPP per household for $35.

“Dear PoPville,

With all the posts about how hard it is to get an appointment at the DC DMV, I had to share that you can register your car without going to the DMV!

Back in November, I bought a used car from an auto shop in Maryland who could not process DC tags. I haven’t owned a car since living in DC, so I had to go to the DMV to get tags before I could take it off the lot. Like many readers, getting an appointment was IMPOSSIBLE.

So I did some digging and learned that you can title/register/tag/etc. your car at tag and title shops in the area. (more…)
