“DC DMV Introduces Parallel Parking Requirement”

From the Department of Motor Vehicles:

“DC DMV has added parallel parking to the road skills test at our Deanwood Center. Parallel parking is a necessary driving skill and is essential to protecting pedestrians, cyclists, and property. It is an important skill to learn and does require practice.

On May 18, 2021, Leon Brown, a Driver Examiner who has been conducting road tests for more than 33 years, administered the first DC DMV road test since 2009 to include parallel parking.

Vance Gootman was the first customer of the day to take and pass the road test. He is a Junior at School Without Walls and is in the Early College Program (ECP) at Georgetown University, where he recently finished his first year of coursework. In preparation for his road skills test, Vance spent many driving practice hours with his mom Jennifer and dad Marek.

Congratulations Vance!”

At Generation Hope, we’re dedicated to supporting teen parents in college as they work toward earning their degrees. We are in need of caring child care volunteers for upcoming events on Saturday, October 21st (in Washington, DC), and Saturday, November 4th (in Arlington, VA). Join our growing volunteer community and support us at an event this fall!

At all of our events, we provide free onsite child care for the children of the teen parents we serve, creating a nurturing environment for the kiddos while their parents learn valuable life skills and build community.

If you enjoy working with children and are looking to make an immediate impact in your community, please visit https://www.generationhope.org/volunteer to learn more.
