Speaking of breakfast sandwiches, Oath Pizza has just launched theirs:
“We wanted to share that Oath Pizza — the Nantucket-born pizza brand known for its award-winning thin crust that is grilled and seared in avocado oil and topped with all-natural and humanely-raised ingredients — launched breakfast service for the first time on Tuesday.
Oath Pizza has gained a cult-following for their signature, thin-crust pizzas like the Bella with mozzarella, roasted cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic and fresh basil; the Spicy Mother Clucker with roasted chicken, pickled red onions, Sriracha and mozzarella; and their dessert Chocolate Chunk Cookie pizza with chocolate chunk cookie dough, ricotta and powdered sugar. The fast-growing pizza brand offers vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options at all of its 50+ locations throughout the country.
Oath Pizza’s new breakfast menu offers a range of breakfast pizzas and breakfast sandwiches, that are made using their award-winning thin crust as the bread. Sharing details on the new menu items below: (more…)

Thanks to a tipster for passing on a job listing saying they are opening in April. The liquor license application for Officina Cafe says:
“New Restaurant delivering food and alcohol to offices throughout the building. Summer Garden with 60 seats. Total Occupancy Loadis150 with seating for 60 inside premises. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to provide live entertainment and dancing indoors and outdoors.”
In October Officina opened their Wharf location.
Eater reported:
“Stefanelli says the Officina Cafe will primarily serve breakfast, lunch, and happy hour. He’s still working out the possibility of dinner. The chef is envisioning Roman pizzas, pasta, sandwiches, salads, coffee, and cocktails.”
Updates as the cafe gets closer to opening downtown.
Thanks to Rachel for sending:
“Oooo! New signage up in the old Bean and Bite space on 15th between L and M. Been empty for about a year, I think??”
Lauren (and others) lament Bean and Bite’s closing after Christmas 2016.
And thanks to Loren for sharing Sweet Leaf’s ridiculously good looking menu.

I am not a foodie but there are two things my upbringing have made me expert in – pizza and bagels. We covered the great pizza news yesterday, and apparently God is smiling on me because I got some great bagel (and more) news today. After some serious serious anticipation the folks at Timber Pizza are opening Call Your Mother in the the former Alfie’s space next week! To start they’ll be open 7am-2pm Weekdays and 8am-3pm on weekends. In a few weeks they’ll also be launching a super club in the evenings so stay tuned for that. Also stay tuned for an exact opening date next week and the full menu. In the meantime, I got a sneak peek and a sneak taste from Andrew and partner/head chef Daniela Moreira:

Oh and there will be Babka!! And of course a black and white cookie. Ed. Note: I’m normally not a black and white cookie guy but this one is much lighter and tastier than the ones from my youth. Can’t wait to taste some sandwiches too.

Check out some sneak peeks of the inside: (more…)

Anyone else take an early taste?

From an email:
“This weekend we’re opening up our new “Republic Kolache @ Reliable Tavern” to the public. We’re bringing our classic combo of savory & sweet kolaches and coffee, plus squeezed-to-order juices and fresh licuados (Mexican-style smoothies) into the Reliable Tavern space [3655 Georgia Ave, NW] each Sat & Sun morning, 9a-noon.
(For the uninitiated, kolache = Czech pastry with a cult following in Texas, consisting of a light slightly-sweet dough filled with savory or sweet ingredients)
We’ll have classic Texas tunes on the jukebox, and look forward to meeting our neighbors up in Petworth/Park View!”

From a press release:
“GS Delicatessen & Specialty Bar, the new-school delicatessen from cousins and fourth generation Washingtonian’s Nick and David Wiseman, is now open for breakfast seven days a week.
Chef Eric McKamey, who recently joined DGS from acclaimed Mintwood Place, has created a menu celebrating the classic delicatessen, featuring bagel sandwiches, breakfast plates, sandwiches and seasonal specials. The new menu also features an extensive list of housemade sodas and a full coffee and espresso program.
DGS will start selling its housemade provisions, including meats, mustard, pickles, hot sauce and more to go. As always, DGS will feature only the best ingredients: sustainably raised meats and produce from local farms.
After 5 years in operation, David and Nick Wiseman have learned that there is deep nostalgia for the classic delicatessen experience, and our new menu is crafted in that spirit. The menu is a retrospective on the “best of” delicatessen.
Eric’s new menu includes old favorites and a roster of new dishes: (more…)
