Thanks to Benjamin for sending Friday night:

“looks like #TailUpGoat is having soft opening tonight. Sign says “See you Tuesday”

Tail Up Goat’s website says:

“How to tell the difference on an island overrun with both: “Tail up goat. Tail down sheep.”

Owners Jon Sybert, Jill Tyler, and Bill Jensen have been working in Washington area restaurants for over three decades collectively. They came together to open the kind of comfortable neighborhood joint they would want to frequent themselves. Adams Morgan is the corner of the city they call home, and they are thrilled to be doing business in this vibrant, historic community.

The three partners met working side by side at local institutions Komi and Little Serow. They soon came to realize that they shared the same sense of pride in their jobs and decided it might be fun to have a place of their own. When a former regular named Kevin Doyle joined up as their financial backer, this dream became a reality.

Tail Up Goat is the type of spot where you can just as easily grab a quick bite on the way home or settle in for a more leisurely celebration. The food and drink are soulful and sophisticated with a special emphasis on pasta and bread along with idiosyncratic, food-friendly tipples and soft drinks. You are just as likely to discover something new and wildly unexpected as settle into a stunning take on an old forgotten favorite.

The restaurant’s name is a nod to the U.S. Virgin Islands, Jill’s childhood home. She and Jon tied the knot on her favorite beach, and Bill occasionally joins them on vacation along with his wife. It is the kind of place where time slows, shoulders relax, and you are able to reconnect easily with friends and family, which is to say exactly the kind of place we want our restaurant to be.”

Check out their menu here. They are located right next door to the coming Philz coffee in the new Adamo building.

  • Menu sounds interesting, at least.

    The name evokes Vonnegut: *

Menu does look interesting, and given their experience with Komi/Little Serow, I expect the food will be delicious.

Are goat themed bars the latest thing?

    • LittleBluePenguin

Yeah, I was just wondering if this was like, the sister place to The Fainting Goat!

Walked by their space today. They’re kinda pushing a new area of dining being around the corner down Lanier and off the main strip, across from a little convenience store and dry cleaners.

They’ll have to get good word of mouth to make up for foot traffic but nice to see these types of restaurants increasingly coming to Adams Morgan.

I am so excited about this! We have talked with Jill and Bill at Komi and Little Serow and they are both wonderful. This should be a fantastic addition to the neighborhood.

Had dinner there last night. Best I’ve had in DC for a while and now tops admo. Location is perfect giving it a great neighborhood feel. Admo is fast becoming the most walkable restaurant neighborhood in the district. Mint wood will have to sharpen themselves up a bit and improve their menu and noise levels inside, they are now behind the curve.
