Crime

The ANC Rep for the area, Ashley Schapitl, had posted:

“There was a shootout in our ANC last night. A family with kids is looking to move after 15 years here. A neighbor who has lived here 30 years said he’s never heard so many shots. I wish our mayoral candidates would stop pretending the District’s violent crime crisis is fixed.

Update: MPD recovered nearly 100 shell casings from this scene—horrifying. Local leaders are taking this with the seriousness it demands, and I want to thank @DCPoliceDept @LAppiah @Wendell_Felder @charlesallen for their work to investigate the incident and its root causes.”

“Statement From Councilmember Felder on March 14th Hill East Incident

The shooting that took place in Hill East the evening of Saturday March 14th was an upsetting experience for neighbors, and my thoughts go out to the families who were put in this dangerous situation. Since being made aware of the incident, I’ve visited the site and been in conversations with residents who live in the area. Residents have shared that they’ve repeatedly contacted MPD regarding this location and have submitted multiple 311 requests related to abandoned vehicles, trash accumulation, and illegal dumping nearby. Event

18th Street Singers presents Out of Many, One, a concert exploring the complexity, challenges, and possibilities of the American experience through a rich tapestry of choral music. Centered around Randall Thompson’s The Peaceable Kingdom, the program features music that reflects the breadth of the American experience, drawing from spirituals, folk traditions, and choral masterworks alongside contemporary voices redefining the genre today.

In this 250th anniversary year of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Out of Many, One reflects on the many voices, stories, and identities that shape our nation and invites audiences to imagine a more just, inclusive, and compassionate future.

Downtown

11th and E Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

This continues to fascinate: When out for lunch and again, I saw a couple leave the Hotel Harrington and lock the lobby door behind them. They were perhaps in their 30s, dressed casually. Maybe they’re the caretakers? Hopefully, not in the sense of the Overlook Hotel.”

Bars

address, as of yet, unknown

Thanks to Ford for sending to us: “The bitcoin bar is almost quaint by comparison. [Not listing the location] is a bold strategy for something opening in two days. Polymarket did do that free grocery store pop-up thing in New York so this could be a takeover of an existing space, presumably one that has no interest in March Madness. Could also be total bullshit.”

Polymarket shares this morning:

“We’re excited to announce ‘The Situation Room’ by Polymarket is coming to Washington, D.C.

The world’s first bar dedicated to monitoring the situation.

Imagine a sports bar… but just for situation monitoring — live X feeds, flight radar, Bloomberg terminals, and Polymarket screens. (more…)
