Last month we posted Souvlaki’s new signage but now the paper is down from their windows and they look ready to roll. Check out their menu here. A call to the restaurant goes to voicemail but their website lists hours as: Monday – Sunday 11:00 am – 9:00 pm.

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. “Last June, you were kind enough to feature our dog Parker in your Afternoon Animal Fix (14 year old shih tzu mix in Navy Yard). That week Parker was in and out of Friendship Hospital for Animals and City Paws, and we thought he wouldn’t make it until the end of the week. Your readers wrote some really kind words and so many of our friends saw your post, commenting on how kind literally everyone was (which isn’t always the case on blog posts, as you know)! Somehow, 8 months later – through a special diet, attentive care from the vets at City Paws, and a LOT of love – we are thrilled to be celebrating Parker’s 15th birthday this weekend.”

“Dear PoPville,
Any word on what this is gonna be? It’s in ivy city in front of the Hecht apartment building and planet fitness.”
I’ve been getting a lot of queries about this spot. Back in October we reported: “The Lane will redefine leisure time for urban parents.” If you have kids, this could be a game changer.

“The big ol Rite Aid on the intersection of Connecticut and Florida Ave is turning into a Walgreens later this month according to signs in the store. The employees there told me that it is going to close for a week later this month while they change it over. So nobody be alarmed when it’s closed for a bit. Right now there are massive sales (30-70 percent off a ton of stuff) there while they (presumably) try to move a lot of inventory before the move.” (more…)

Quite the transformation from back in 2015. Like the way it turned out?

“Dear PoPville,
I am interested to know if any of your readers have suggestions on how to handle a situation. We have a developer in our neighborhood (Kingman Park) who came in and flipped a house on only two postcard permits. This includes adding two full bathrooms, an HVAC, moving the main plumbing line and shifting the entire kitchen, moving the electrical, gas, and plumbing. After complaining to DCRA for almost a month, during which time the house was actually listed on the market/came under contract, the city finally issued a Stop Work Order.
DCRA assured us that the realtor would have to make the Stop Work Order known to the new potential buyer, but honestly we are not sure. Since the order has been put on the house, the developer has covered the windows and started doing work again inside the house. (more…)
