Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Meet the Humphrey Bogart of cats! At first Mac seems like such a tough guy but he is a real softie with a heart of gold. Like most of us, he is sociable but with boundaries. He’d rather choose to hop on the sofa next to you than be picked up and placed on your lap. Patience will reward you. Mac accepts new people pretty quickly, but really warms up with more time. Mac is all set to begin his “beautiful friendship” – he is just waiting for the right person to start! Is it you?!

Violet is a healthy, active, middle-aged pup who wants to be your one and only! She is looking for a calm, adult-only home with an experienced dog owner who can recognize her triggers and help her to feel safe and secure. She can be very anxious at times, which makes her wary of strangers, reactive around other dogs, and easily startled. Once settled, however, Violet isn’t afraid to show her goofy side and will request daily snuggles. She’s a small lady with a very big personality!

She is impeccably house-trained, knows basic commands, and can easily be left at home without incident during the workday. She likes to explore, whether that means going for car rides or hiking Rock Creek. While she would love to have a yard to run in, she also does fine in lower-level apartment living (no elevators) with several walks daily.

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

In a few months, I’ll be looking to rent a rowhouse in NW DC that provides access to a fenced-in backyard area, so that my dog can go in/out freely during the day. I currently have this living situation in DC, so I want to hold on to it if possible! Because it seems like these types of properties are pretty rare, I’m hoping to hire a realtor to help find this type of rental property in a neighborhood that I want to be in. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I would love to hear if anyone has experience with being a living liver donor. A friend of a friends kid needs a new one and mine is in great shape so I am putting my organ into the pool of options to help if ultimately selected and would like to hear from those who have been through it especially locally. The cashier tells me Bed, Bath & Beyond’s last day will be June 1st. For the curious, I came away with a decent kitchen knife for 5 bucks. I got my eye on a vacuum cleaner but I’m gambling on a deeper discount – they were only at 30% last weekend. The world market had some Icelandic row but I wasn’t ready to take that 2 buck gamble… (more…)

Lemon Cuisine of India opened back in December 2016, previously home to Crios Mexican.

Thomas reports:

“It was one of mine and my wife’s go-to take-out spots. I tried calling to place an order Monday, and got no response, figured it was just a one-off issue. They’re normally closed on Tuesdays, so when I called Wednesday night and still got no answer, I got suspicious. (more…)

Crime

Oof. Thanks to Beth for sending: “Carroll Ave in Takoma DC, right in front of Takoma Central and Yoga District, across the street from Starbucks. I was surprised to see a tire theft on a main street, but this area is very quiet overnight. And these thieves move fast. I spoke with the car’s driver. It’s a rental – she just moved to DC from NYC yesterday.”

It had been 7 days since our last stolen wheels report.

Bloomingdale

“Dear PoPville,

I live at 1st and R St. NW near Big Bear Cafe in Bloomingdale. was awakened at 2:44am this morning by an unusually loud, low-flying helicopter. It seemed to be making repeated passes right over our house in intervals of about 30 seconds (i.e. never straying far from directly overhead. Objects on shelves and nightstand and walls in my room were rattling when the helicopter passed over our house. This lasted for quite some time — approximately 20 minutes. Any idea what was going on?”

A few folks also inquired @PoPville on twitter and Alan found from US Park Police that: “The Eagle was assisting MPD with a critical missing 70 y.o. with dementia.”
