I’m working with a team of 24 local artists to create and send hug-inspired artworks while we’re physically distancing and unable to give real hugs. The project is called A Hug or Something Like It and allows folks to send ‘Hug” care packages containing miniature hug art prints made by DC-area artists to friends and family (or to enjoy themselves!). Thanks to Judith for passing on from my beloved Calvert Woodley:
“I am sending out this email to inform you that Calvert Woodley will temporarily close for all business starting this Saturday, April 4th, at 5:00pm.
That means no online orders, no phone calls, no customers in the store, no employees in the store. It also means online ordering has been disabled, effective immediately. I know this will anger some, and I apologize for that, but there’s no way to handle the many orders we currently have and take more new orders, and still close by Saturday at 5:00pm.
The point of this notice is also to let you know you can pick up your pre-existing orders from the last few days. To handle the rush we will be available the next two days from 10:00am – 5:00pm. If you can’t make it in before Saturday night, or don’t want to, we will hold all orders as we normally do, for as long as you’d like.
Join us for an enjoyable evening tasting a wide variety of wines, spirits, craft brews, and other beverages from the Land of the Hellenes… all to benefit the trees! We have brought together an impressive collection of brands that are committed to sustainability, and a splendid time is guaranteed for all.
ForestPlanet is a 501(c)3 organization that supports large scale, low cost-per-tree reforestation efforts all over the world. We help plant trees where they bring the most benefit to the region’s soil, habitat, the global environment, and local communities.
You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in D.C.

“Greetings customers of Logan Circle Laundromat. We understand the inconvenience of our business temporarily closing. The decision was not made lightly. While laundromats are essential businesses, just because we can stay open does not mean we should. The health of our staff, customers, and community were taken into consideration. We also spoke with other laundromat owners who had similar concerns. What if our employees are infected with COVID-19? What if our business increases the risk of spreading the virus while the country is trying to flatten the curve? (more…)
Do you or any of your readers know of a local organization or group that is accepting financial contributions towards PPE for DC healthcare workers? Not donating actual supplies (although obviously great if people can do that too).”
