“Dear PoPville,
I am a small-time landlord (just one condo), and my tenant has been making late or partial payments since the pandemic started. I had some email and phone conversations with them early on, and assured them that I could not try to evict them if their April rent payment was late while they waited for various assistance programs, including expanded unemployment benefits (part of their income is from freelancing, which I knew at the outset), were implemented.
At the beginning of May, the tenant paid all of the April rent and half of the May rent. (more…)

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced the start of bus lane construction on 14th Street NW between Euclid and Newton Streets NW, commencing a year-long project to improve bus performance and safety.
“We are excited to launch such important work in enhancing bus transit in the Columbia Heights corridor,” said District Director Jeff Marootian. “DDOT recognizes how essential this will be for area residents and it also exemplifies Mayor Bowser’s commitment to improving bus travel speeds and reliability across the District.”
DDOT expects the enhanced bus lane will improve performance of the DC Circulator Woodley Park-Adams Morgan route and Metrobus lines 52, 54, and 59. (more…)

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today introduced the District of Columbia Government Title Equality Act, which would redesignate the Mayor of the District of Columbia as the Governor, the D.C. Council as the Legislative Assembly, the D.C. Councilmembers as Representatives, and the Chair of the Council as the Speaker. These are the titles used in the State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth constitution, which the District adopted in 2016 in anticipation of passage of a bill to make D.C. the 51st state. Fudge and Norton introduced the redesignation bill to highlight to the American people and Members of Congress that there would be a seamless transition to D.C. statehood because D.C. already operates as the functional equivalent of a state, providing state-, county- and city-level services, despite being denied congressional voting rights and full local self-government. Her name is Lucy and she is an Assistance Animal to my boyfriend who is a navy vet. She helps more than you can imagine! To answer a few questions that we get a lot…she’s more like a cat and less like a dog, she’s very clean, does not smell at all, she is litter box trained and has salads for every meal. She is six months old and won’t get much bigger. She brings us so much joy and happiness, we’re thrilled she’s doing that for so many others during these crazy times!”
