Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

Longtime reader, first time writer. I have a painted gray front walkway leading up to my row home – you know the one, you can’t seem to go a block in DC without seeing this grey painted concrete look (it must be the flipper special). It’s been chipping lately and I’d like to do some spot painting. Do your readers have any idea what the paint brand or the name of the paint color is of this ubiquitous look?”

Thanks to Annie for letting us know:

“I just wanted to share that Harrar Coffee & Roastery  in Park View is re-opening on Monday! They have been closed throughout the pandemic, only selling individual bags of beans through online orders, and also had some roadwork in front of the shop that delayed opening. The roadwork is now done and they’re back to normal hours for grab & go coffee or outdoor cafe seating, starting on Monday.”

Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Sweet Cora is like most of us (OK, some of us….OK, me) after quarantine – a few pounds overweight and in need of some TLC and a healthy routine! Cora was surrendered when her owner moved and couldn’t take her along. This 12-year-old lady is incredibly mellow and likes to go with the flow; she’s housetrained and in good overall health, but will need regular gentle exercise and a controlled diet to lose weight and reduce pain from arthritis. She gets along well with all the people and pups in her foster home, but would also shine as an only pet! Cora is a little too interested in cats, so would do best in a cat-free home. She’ll also need either a single-level home or one with an elevator, but she does great on a leash and will be a wonderful companion for a relaxing stroll! Cora is a laid-back and affectionate lady in search of a loving home in which to spend her golden years and share all the love she has to give. Find out more about adopting this sweetheart here.

Hey, all! Louie (Vuitton, of course) here. I’m a 4-year-old stylish gentleman who loves to cuddle. No, seriously. I will sit right next to you and chat and chirp while you pet me (not my tail or tummy please, I’m still a cat with standards). I love to be with my people, including older kids, and I like chilling with other cats, too. I’m very healthy and am up to date on all my vaccinations. I do have to admit that I am scared of dogs, so need to go to a dog-free home, please. I’m looking forward to finding a furever home where I can shower my new family with love and affection for many years to come. Find out more about adopting me here.

“Dear PoPville,

With the announcement that DC schools will be virtual this fall, are there ways the community can help keep students engaged? Volunteer tutors? Organizations that are directing resources (computers, tablets, etc.) to those in need? Food banks focused on student needs? If it “takes a village” in good times, it will take much more in These Times. Likewise, are there things we can do – especially those of us without kids – to support teachers?”
