Ed. Note: Yesterday there were 14,743 total positives.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“The District’s reported data for Wednesday, September 16, 2020 includes 47 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 14,790.

The District reported two additional COVID-19 related deaths.

· 73-year-old male
· 81-year-old male

Tragically, 619 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

The community spread chart is subject to fluctuation because the data is based on symptom onset date. As national demand for testing increases and results take longer to come back in DC and across the country, DC Health has identified a need to increase the reporting lag time by four days to reduce volatility in the data. The most recent data reflects an increase in community spread. To ensure this graph accurately reflects the most recent data, the community spread count is being paused as these adjustments are made.” (more…)

“Yet another DC bar closed for good: Billy Goat Tavern, outpost of the Chicago bar of SNL fame. It’s burgers and cheap breakfasts, and friendly bar scene, were popular with Georgetown Law students, office workers, hotel guests, and employees of nearby labor unions.”

According to yelp they’ve been closed since August.

Holiday

Countdown as of 11:54am Wednesday

From an email:

“the basics are: city-wide blast at 5:00 pm on Friday 9/18 to announce the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, which begins that evening. Anyone who has a shofar (ram’s horn) is invited to blow the shofar from wherever they will be. If they’d like, they can pin their location on the map at www.theblastdc.com so others in their vicinity can hear. If folks don’t have a shofar but want to hear a blast, they can check out the pins on the map and find something in hearing distance nearby.”

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I recently started planning for some renovations to my patio space. I live in a ground floor condo in NW, with a small but nice outdoor space. Up until now, I’ve been using cheap plastic patio furniture, but since I’m doing an upgrade to paving and various other elements, I figured perhaps an upgrade in the furniture was also due. Here is my concern: (more…)
