Dating

“Dear PoPville,

I’m looking for the musician at Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park!

I was going up the middle, main stairs at the park and all the way at the top as you make a right, there was a handsome guy sitting on a bench putting away his music gear. He had a guitar and a small speaker next to him so I think he had been playing earlier. There was eye contact and a smile, but I’m not good in these situations so my smile back was likely lame. About 10 minutes later I had another opportunity as he walked past me again with his gear all packed up, but I panicked, looked away and down at my phone. (more…)

On Thursday we shared the sad news from the Codmother’s owner Tolga Erbatur, which simply said “Farewell Mother.” I’ll be honest, a part of me was hoping that we’d witness another miracle but alas I was saddened to see:

Thanks to Diego (and everyone else) who sent The Codmother’s legendary playlist preserved on Spotify.

One last look at the poster for posterity: (more…)

Capitol Hill

12th and Maryland Ave, NE

Liz reported Sunday morning: “This morning around 7:30am my husband saw some folks riding horses on Maryland Ave. and F St. NE. They weren’t wearing any uniforms and didn’t exactly say what they were doing other than “going for a ride.” Does anyone know what that was about?”

Thanks to Shannon Quinn for passing on the photo above from around noon on Sunday.

The Bajan Sensation notes: “There are groups of horse owners in PG County that ride into the city regularly, especially on the weekends”

1115 U Street, NW

Thanks to Stephanie for passing on from U Street Music Hall:

“Dear U Hall friends and family,

There is no easy way to say this, but here we go: It is with tremendous sadness that we share with you today that U Street Music Hall is closing effective immediately.

When we closed our doors to the public this past March, just days before we were to celebrate our club’s 10-year anniversary, none of us could have imagined at the time that we would still be closed nearly seven months later with no return date in sight because of an unrelenting disease called COVID-19. But we kept our hopes up even in the face of an impossible situation because we love what we do so much: presenting the best music in the world for the best fans in the world. It was our mission to return. (more…)
