2436 18th Street, NW – previously home to The Jerk Pit, Baja Tap, Big Sky, Mellow Mushroom, and Eighteenth and Red

Well happy Friday to us all after all!! I’m told that the Popal Group (owners of fellow Adams Morgan hot spots Lapis and the recently opened – Maison Bar à Vin) bought the building most recently home to The Jerk Pit (et al). Word on the street is that they plan to put The Berliner there. (more…)

closing notice up in Adams Morgan at 1801 Columbia Road, NW

Thanks to all who wrote in:

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to pass on to you that the Starbucks in Adams Morgan is closing as of Sunday. It’s a giant loss for the neighborhood – while it’s true that there’s no shortage of coffee shops in Adams Morgan, the staff that works there is truly fantastic. And worst of all, the partners only learned the news yesterday (and from a customer no less) that the store would be shuttered and their jobs are gone by the end of the week. We asked if they’d be moved to a different location, and they said they weren’t sure – but as the stores at 16th & U and Howard (!) are also both closing, they’re not optimistic. (more…)

Event

DC Legendary Musicians, Inc. celebrates its 20th Anniversary with Spirit, Sanctuary, Silence & Sound, an evening honoring Washington, DC’s musical legacy, cultural memory, and community service. Founded in 2006 by Rev. Dr. Sandra Butler-Truesdale, DCLM has spent two decades recognizing the musicians, elders, artists, and cultural workers who helped shape DC’s sound.

The celebration will include music, recognition, community gathering, and a special tribute to the symbolic legacy of Ron McNair — astronaut, physicist, and saxophonist. The evening also marks the launch of renewed DCLM programming, including Second Sunday Sound, Silence & Sanctuary, the Annual Thanksgiving Drive, and the renewal of an Annual Health Fair connected to DC Legendary Musicians Way near 6th and T Street NW.

Little Free Library

“Dear PoPville,

Our Little Free Library, which sits in front of the Alma Thomas House at 1530 15th St NW, has been featured a few times on PoPville, and we really appreciate the Logan Circle neighborhood’s enthusiasm for the library and for our curation efforts. What we don’t appreciate is the periodic vandalism. A few years ago, (more…)

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to crowdsource a jeweler recommendation for a small, but perhaps odd, custom project. I have a monogrammed ring in what looks like bronze or copper, and it has an empty pronged setting. The ring is quite old, likely late 19th century. I’d like to place a gemstone in the setting, and have the ring resized without damaging the monogram.

I asked one jeweler (more…)
