“Mayor Muriel Bowser has declared a Snow Emergency in Washington, DC beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 31 and going until 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2. The District Snow Team is deploying at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 31 in preparation for snow starting early Sunday and perhaps continuing into Tuesday, and the Snow Emergency will allow plow drivers to clear snow emergency routes curb to curb. Pop Star Playbook is an inclusive, six-week, high-energy singing and dancing class created for adults and teens (18+) with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Participants pick their favorite pop artists — Britney, Taylor, BTS, whoever they’ve been belting out in the car — and spend six Wednesdays working on songs, choreography, and stage presence with ArtStream’s teaching artists. Every skill level is welcome, and the class is built so every learner feels supported and celebrated. Sing or dance or both!

Where: Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center, 1529 16th St NW, near Dupont Circle Metro.
Who: Autistic adults and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, 18+, all experience levels welcome

Logan Circle Main Street, in partnership with K-Bird, Barrel House Cafe & Bar, and Emily of LOVERS Plant Studio & Wares, is excited to announce the launch of the Logan Circle Creative Market, a new monthly outdoor market designed to bring together local artists, makers, small businesses, and neighbors in the heart of the Logan Circle community.
The first market will be May 3, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM along P Street and Rhode Island Avenue NW, including the exterior of K-Bird and the northern exterior of Barrel House Cafe & Bar.

From Congresswoman Norton’s Office:
“Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said that she will do everything in her power to prevent permanent fencing, walls or structures around the U.S. Capitol complex or in the District of Columbia. Norton today sent a letter to the Capitol Police Board opposing the recommendation of Acting U.S. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman for permanent fencing at the Capitol complex. In her letter, Norton called permanent fencing “security theater–it would make the Capitol ‘look’ safe but mask the lack of state-of-the-art security measures that could actually prevent attacks in the future.”
In a separate statement today, Norton said: “Temporary fences at the Capitol are necessary for security now, given the attack of January 6th. However, the attack must not lead to an overreaction that fundamentally changes the people’s house into a fortress against the people. The failure at the Capitol was largely preventable had the Capitol Police called on the assistance of more than a dozen available federal security forces. The planning and calls for people to storm the Capitol were not done in secret, but were done openly for weeks, encouraged by Trump’s hyped claims of a stolen election and his call for people to gather in the District on January 6th, capped by a speech actually urging people to go to the Capitol just before the insurrection occurred.
“Fencing is a 19th-century approach to security that must not become our response to the failures of January 6th, when state-of-the-art 21st-century approaches are available and are more effective. I remind the Capitol Police Board that our Founders and the architects of the nation’s capital placed the Capitol in the center of our city, in a neighborhood surrounded by residents. We will not allow the Capitol Hill neighborhood to be turned into a military zone any more than the Capitol itself.”

“Linda Harllee Harper, Director of Gun Violence Prevention
Linda Harllee Harper is visionary leader in social and criminal justice, currently serving as Senior Deputy Director to the Government of the District of Columbia’s Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) – the city’s cabinet level agency serving youth impacted by the DC Juvenile Justice System. Mrs. Harllee Harper started her career with DC Public Schools as a Substance Abuse Prevention Intervention Coordinator at the former Oak Hill Youth Center. For more than fifteen years, Mrs. Harllee Harper has successfully led and supported reform efforts in the District’s Juvenile Justice System, and is credited with launching a network of contracted local community-based providers designed to serve as an alternative to residential care or detention.”

WMATA replied: “Hi Rodrigo, good eye and great question! These sensors were put in from our Engineering Department. Happy Friday!”
