DC Government

Thanks to all who’ve messaged us:

“I’m eligible for the vaccine based on zip code, health and occupation, so of course I clicked to register at exactly 9am today.

At the end, I got a message saying “Thank you, […] registration is only open for those 65 and older”. No appointment, no find a location page.

Anyone else have this (incorrect) message at the end? Not sure what to do without registering multiple times trying to get to a correct page.”

Updated response from a reader: “Thank you for contacting DC Health. We are aware of the technological error and are working diligently to resolve it. At this time, please continue to monitor the website and book your appointment via https://vaccinateqa.dc.gov/”

Crime

From MPD:

“At approximately 2353 hours last night, a complainant reported to MPD units that the driver of an unknown black sedan fired a gunshot at their vehicle while they were traveling south in the 3rd Street Tunnel at Massachusetts Ave NW. The complainant was not injured, but their vehicle was stuck by a single bullet. The complainant believes this may be related to the other vehicle being offended by their driving.

If anyone was in the area or has any information about this event, please contact the First District Detective’s Office at 202-299-2025.”

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

Here’s a real estate 2.0 question concerning that which happens when a popup meets another popup (the relevant backgrounder here is that this involves a row house block comprised of flat roofs with raised portions between)

Is it expected that the neighboring property (next to the new construction) be allowed to build directly into this new wall (as you no longer have access to the congruent space you have allowed usage of on your side)?

And if the halfway point (assumed to be the property line) has been breached by this new construction, that is to say built past (perhaps because they had to) is it then the right of the neighboring property to do so?”

Remembering

Ed. Note: Earlier today Mayor Bowser proclaimed today “A Day of Remembrance for Lives Lost to COVID-19” as the District surpassed 1,000 lives lost due to Covid-19.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser lost her only sister and oldest sibling, Mercia Bowser. The Mayor released the following statement on the passing of her sister:

“My family and I are mourning the loss of my sister, Mercia Bowser, who passed away this morning due to complications related to COVID-19. Mercia was loved immensely and will be missed greatly, as she joins the legion of angels who have gone home too soon due to the pandemic. I ask that you continue to keep those who have been lost or impacted by the pandemic and those who are working so hard to protect us from it in your thoughts and prayers, and I respectfully request that my family and I are granted the time and space we need to mourn the loss of Mercia. metro

From WMATA:

“The public comment period for Metro’s Fiscal Year 2022 budget is officially open, and Metro’s Board of Directors wants your feedback. Metro is encouraging anyone impacted by changes in this budget to make their voice heard before the comment period ends at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16.

Metro is facing a significant budget shortfall due to a decrease in ridership caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, with ridership down about 90 percent and 60 percent on Metrorail and Metrobus, respectively. Federal relief funding has allowed Metro to avoid layoffs, continue providing essential travel service, and prepare for transit ridership to return. However, even with the additional federal funding and management actions such as limiting the use of contractors and shrinking Metro’s workforce by attrition, there is not enough money to fill the entire budget gap for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2021.
