“Dear PoPville,

There are few streets that escape the wrath of DC Parking enforcement. The odd numbered side of 9thSt NW by the intersection of 9th & O St was one of them – until this morning [earlier this week]. DC Parking has been installing paid permanent placards from O to the convention center. Knowing the operating model of parking for the city, is there any widespread notice before this happens, or should those parked that didn’t see the signs go up in a matter of hours expect an immediate parking ticket?

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I just wanted to share a scam that I unfortunately fell victim to this morning. I locked myself out of my house. I had a Nest lock that I was able to unlock, but we also had a regular entry door lock in the doorknob, for which I’d accidentally left the keys inside.

I called a company, which had great google reviews. With that service, you call dispatch, and they send a technician out. The locksmith arrived, and began working. She spent about one minute trying to pick the lock, then before I knew what she was doing, she pulled out a drill and completely destroyed the lock. She claimed it was necessary, and then offered to sell me a new one for $125 (the same lock costs $20 on Amazon). This was on top of the $250 she’d already charged for the service.

This all seemed wrong, since it was a regular door lock, no deadbolt, no damage. (more…)

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve been on hold with Washington Gas for over two hours, and this is not the first time this month. I’ve sat on hours-long holds a few times and in previous call attempts I’ve had to hang up to go to work or class before anyone picks up. I’ve also emailed their customer service email address and have not gotten a response. Adding insult to injury, the hold robot started saying “your expected wait time is less than 5 minutes” at least an hour ago. (more…)
